A new way to use up small amounts of SAS EuroBonus miles

One of the more annoying parts of the miles and points game is how you deal with odd balances, often trivial numbers, that you end up with in various programmes.

There are, though, often ways of using up small amounts which means that they do not go to waste.  Tomorrow and the day after, I will run through a number of similar options for a number of different schemes.

This was triggered by an email from SAS EuroBonus, who have got a new way of allowing you to use up small balances.

Via RewardsPay, you can redeem small quantities of SAS miles for an iTunes voucher.

A £10 voucher costs 2,680 points and a £25 voucher costs 6,710 points, although as of yesterday the £25 ones seem to have gone out of stock.

Interestingly, RewardsPay also allows you to buy additional points – if you are a little short of 2,680 or 6,710 – at the over-generous rate of roughly $6 per 1,000, albeit that these points can only be used at RewardsPay and not for SAS flight redemptions.  You could also top up your SAS account with a small Amex Membership Rewards transfer.

At the moment, iTunes seems to be the only UK partner.  Amazon is available, but only in $ vouchers for the US store – hopefully UK vouchers will appear at some point.

As I said above, over the next two days I will look at similar opportunities across a wide range of programmes.
