Maximise your Avios, air miles and hotel points

Earn triple Avios (900-1,350 per day) with Hertz car rentals

Links on Head for Points may support the site by paying a commission.  See here for all partner links.

There is only one way to earn Avios points when renting with Hertz and that is to credit them to Iberia Plus.  Hertz is not a British Airways partner.

Once in Iberia Plus you can easily move your Avios across to British Airways Executive Club or avios.com via the ‘Combine My Avios’ function online.

Until the end of February, Iberia is offering triple miles on all Hertz rentals.  The current deal – 300 Avios per day – is already attractive, so this is very impressive.

Full details can be found here on the Iberia website.

Private rentals earn from 300 to 450 Avios per day depending on the size of car rented.  Tripled, this will rise to 900 to 1,350 Avios per day.

Rentals booked using a corporate discount code only earn half of the above rates.

You must rent for a minimum of three days to get the ‘triple Avios’ deal.  There is a list of 775 ‘qualifying Hertz establishments’ on the website which is impossible to search, but I assume it must cover pretty much every Hertz depot, at least in Europe.

  • David says:

Many corporate contracts with Hertz don’t allow you to earn airline miles at all, only Hertz Gold Rewards points. Still, corporate rates can be so much cheaper than the general public rates that it is worth forgoing the miles.

    • Rob says:

The IBM Friends & Family rate falls into that category, although that rate is not as generous as it was.

  • Susan says:

Does anyone know: would using the Amex plat rate preclude the extra Avios?

  • Mummy55 says:

I regularly book Hertz rentals for Spain and find the best price is often booking through Virgin Flying club, you also get 1000 virgin miles per booking at the moment , and sometimes more with bonus offers.(all of last year this was. 2013 miles).

  • John says:

Just been denied a retro credit even though I used the IB Platinum CDP

    • Rob says:

Odd – I got Virgin miles and 250 Hertz points for my Amex Plat CDP rental over New Year. Not sure why. Although I never wanted them to go to Hertz in the first place and did not even link the booking to my Hertz account.

  • Matt says:

Any one else confused by this statement on the Iberia site, “Earn Triple Avios with Hertz for a minimum of 3 days rental for prepaid and not prepaid online rates” I interprete this as saying you need to book by phone, or is there another way?

    • Rob says:

No, it means (I think) prepaid online or NOT prepaid but still booked online is OK!
