Maximise your Avios, air miles and hotel points

25% bonus when you convert hotel points to American Airlines miles

American Airlines has copied BA’s popular promotion and is offering a 25% bonus when you convert your hotel points into American Airlines miles.

You can find full details of this promotion here.

The important thing to note is that not all hotel schemes are included.  Most importantly, Starwood Preferred Guest is excluded.

The hotel loyalty schemes participating are:

Best Western Rewards

Choice Privileges

Club Carlson

Hilton HHonors

IHG Rewards Club

Marriott Rewards (excluding ‘travel package’ redemptions)

Wyndham Rewards

The deadline for transferring your points is 31st March.  The bonus applies to all transfers during the period, not just the first one.

None of these hotel schemes has a generous conversion rate to airline miles, and a 25% bonus will not change that.  However, if you want to empty out some small hotel balances, or need to top off your American Airlines account, it is a better deal than usual.

How to earn American Airlines miles from UK credit cards

How to earn American Airlines miles from UK credit cards (April 2024)

American Airlines no longer has its own UK credit card.

There is, however, still a way to earn American Airlines miles from a UK credit card

The route is via Marriott Bonvoy. Marriott Bonvoy hotel loyalty points convert to American Airlines miles at the rate of 3:1.

The best way to earn Marriott Bonvoy points is via the official Marriott Bonvoy American Express card. It comes with 20,000 points for signing up and 2 points for every £1 you spend. At 2 Bonvoy points per £1, you are earning (at 3:1) 0.66 American Airlines miles per £1 spent on the card.
