Tesco discounting gift cards, combines with 150 Clubcard points (360 Avios) offer

Tesco is discounting a number of gift cards by 20% this week, ostensibly as a Mother’s Day promotion.  The offer runs until March 30th.

There is some press advertising for this which only shows a small number of cards.  However, in-store posters list the following cards as being included:

£4 off a £20 Pizza Express card

£4 off a £20 Ticketmaster card

£4 off a £20 Prezzo card

£4 off a £20 Facebook card

£5 off a £25 iTunes card

£5 off a £25 New Look card

£5 off a £25 Monsoon card

£4 off a £20 H&M card

£2 off a £10 Accessorize card

Only the denominations listed above are discounted – do not buy cards from those retailers in other denominations unless you want to pay full price.

What makes this promotion especially attractive is that it will combine with the on-going ‘150 Clubcard points for spending £50 on gift cards’ promotion.

£25 of iTunes and £40 of Pizza Express, for example, would cost you just £52 instead of £65, and you would receive 150 Tesco Clubcard points – good for 360 Avios or 375 Virgin Flying Club miles.

The 150 points will be based on the discounted price, so you will need to spend at least £63 on participating cards in order to get above £50 after the discount.

You are not meant to be able to use ‘conditional spend’ coupons on gift cards – ie the ‘£9 off £70 spend’ or similar vouchers that a lot of people were posted recently or got as a till-spit – but some cashiers will let them through.  Your chances are improved if you add some grocery shopping as well, and put the gift cards through the till first.

Remember that you receive the bonus for every £50 you spend, so a £100 purchase earns 300 bonus Clubcard points.  Tesco’s own gift cards do NOT count towards the £50.

The gift card spend also counts for fuel save. So every 50 pounds on cards is a 2p litre saving

    • Rob says:

What do you mean you can’t find it? The discount will show up automatically at the till when you pay, as will the 150 bonus points if you spend £50.

      • Simon says:

Yes. Still working fine. I bought 5 x £25 itunes giftcards this morning which when discounted cost me £100.

300 bonus CC also show on the receipt.

  • Dominic says:

It is the most wonderful, cumulative set of bonuses – I have made a big petrol saving, got loads of extra club card points, and discounted cards for iTunes and some local restaurants! Fabulous!

  • Clive J says:

Tried this with some £20 Facebook cards in a London Tesco last night. None of them went through the till properly and the CS staff were useless. May try again at the weekend.
