British Airways has announced two new ‘Winter-only’ ski routes for 2014/5, to Grenoble (photo below) and Friedrichshafen.  Both flights will operate from Gatwick.

They will only operate for a short season, from December 20th to April 19th 2015.  More importantly, the flights will only operate twice a week, on Saturdays and Sundays – so you will need to stay for either 24 hours or 6-7 days, with nothing inbetween.

The flight times are:

Gatwick to Grenoble:

Saturdays – 09.35 – 12.20, Sundays – 08.25 – 11.10

Grenoble to Gatwick:

Saturdays – 13.10 – 14.00, Sundays – 12.00 – 12.50

Gatwick to Friedrichshafen:

Saturdays – 07.20 – 10.00, Sundays – 08.25 – 11.05

Friedrichshafen – Gatwick:

Saturdays – 10.50 – 11.30, Sundays – 11.50 – 12.30

Cash and Avios flights should be available for booking now at ba.com.

Cant see any avios availability to friedrischshafen in eco or business. Great airport for st anton/lech

  • Farringdon says:

Don’t they operate these routes already as weekly charters during the ski season? Seems like they’re basically turning that into a normal scheduled service (presumably the economics are better?).

  • Andrew says:

While it’s usually a good thing to see a greater number of routes (redemption opportunities), with Grenoble I am concerned that the airport simply can’t handle any more aircraft.

I flew there over the winter for some snow. The departure halls were heaving with people queuing for 45 minutes to check-in (and then again if you had skis or boards). From security to gate was just a continual mass of bodies. Our charter flight back was delayed because of one pax of whose location the ground staff had not the slightest clue. And best of all they’ve got a AF 747 pictured in the departure hall, from at some point in the distant history, as if to imply that the entire operation wouldn’t just collapse if one actually dropped in!

I hear it’s quite nice in the summer…

BA takes over dead Ryanair route shock horror! (Almost)

Fond memories of the tiny Friedrichshafen airport, next to the Zeppelin hangar. Airship flights available.

We flew Ryanair from STN for 1p each all in as a back door into Switzerland, complete with upgraded car from Avis. Apparently the route was uneconomic (:D) and is no longer offered.

It would be nice to rteturn, even at several thousand times the FR price.

  • Lady London says:

There is some public transport going from FDH to specific ski areas, IIRC in Austria. It’s a tiny airport and there were still no lounges when I was last there but the restaurant upstairs is patronised by locals and has food that is really quite good for an airport. The airport also has a good selection of connections to German cities.
