Hyatt Gold Passport has announced a new promotion for travellers who prefer to collect airline miles rather than hotel points from their stays.
You will earn triple Avios points (1,500 per stay) on all Hyatt stays (including Andaz) until August 31st.
The bonus only starts on your 2nd stay after registration, unfortunately – your first stay will only earn the standard 500 Avios.
In order to earn Avios, you need to switch your Hyatt account from earning Gold Passport points to earning airline miles instead.
You need to register for the British Airways version of the promotion here.
There are also separate versions for Air France / KLM, American Airlines, ANA, JAL, Jet Airways, Lufthansa Miles & More and United MileagePlus.
Is this promotion worth it?
It depends, is the boring answer.
All other things being equal, it is obviously a better deal if you do cheap one-night stays compared to expensive multi-night stays, since you are forgoing fewer Hyatt points.
Hyatt points are also tricky to earn. They have no credit card in the UK and are not an American Express Membership Rewards partner, unlike Hilton, SPG or Carlson. You may therefore want to take Avios instead of Hyatt points from your stays if you are worried about being stuck with orphan points.
