UPDATE – APRIL 2024:  This article is now out of date, but don’t worry.  We produce a monthly summary of the top hotel bonus point offers – please click HERE or use the ‘Hotel Offers’ menu above.

Marriott Bonvoy is offering 1,000 bonus points per night and double elite night credits on stays between 13th February and 29th April. Click here to read more and click here to register.

Marriott Rewards has launched its Summer promotion.  They have gone with the name ‘Getaway Bonus’.

This is valid for stays at Marriott, JW Marriott, EDITION, Autograph Collection, Renaissance, AC Hotels, Courtyard, SpringHill Suites, Fairfield Inn, Residence Inn, TownePlace Suites, Moxy, Gaylord and Ritz-Carlton properties.  (Protea, the South African chain just bought by Marriott, is not yet part of Marriott Rewards.)

The name is purposely vague because there appears to be four different variants of this offer.

You can see which one you have received by logging on to your Marriott Rewards account here and clicking the ‘Your Promotions’ under the ‘My Account’ tab.

If you are only an occasional Marriott visitor, you will most likely see this offer, which is also showing to everyone on the Marriott home page:

Double points starting on your third stay during the promotional period, up to a maximum bonus of 25,000 points

According to this Flyertalk thread the other options appear to be:

20,000 points for 12 nights plus an additional 10,000 points if you reach 18 nights

25,000 points for 15 nights plus an additional 10,000 points if you reach 20 nights

35,000 points for 20 nights plus an additional 10,000 points if you reach 25 nights

If you likely to be doing a long run of Marriott stays during the Summer, you may prefer one of these three.  Whilst I have never done it myself, it is widely reported on Flyertalk and elsewhere that Marriott Rewards is willing to switch your offer if you call them.

If you assume a £5-£6 / 1000 points valuation for Marriott Rewards, you will see that the promotion is worth roughly £10 of value per night if you pick one of the nights-based targets and achieve it.  This is not a bad deal.

The promotion runs from June 1st to August 31st.  You must register via the ‘Promotions Central’ page.  Registration closes on July 31st.

If you want to compare this offer with competing promotions from other chains, take a look at our ‘Hotel Offers‘ page.

Hilton and Starwood are also going with ‘double points’ offers although both of those kick in from your first stay.

The Marriott offer only kicks in with your third stay.  If you have a very expensive Marriott stay planned during this period you may want to try to squeeze in a couple of stays in a cheap property first.

  • Elaine says:

“Double points starting on your second stay during the promotional period, up to a maximum bonus of 25,000 points”. The common version of this promotion appears to be that it’s double points after your second stay and not on your second stay. So it’s your third stay before you get the double points.

      Deleted … see below!

      • Elaine says:

I’d prefer that you were right but I think several on Flyertalk emailed Marriott to check and the answer came back that it was from the 3rd stay. Will keep my fingers crossed you’re right as I only have two Marriot group stays planned!

        • Rob says:

Hmmm …. I will go and dig out that thread. If true it looks VERY poor compared to Hilton and SPG.

EDIT – seems you are right. I have amended the post. This is weird, I have never seen a hotel promo before that only kicked in on the third stay.

As a side note – I believe its possible to transfer points from Amex MR to Marriott but I can’t work out how to… anyone know?

    • Rob says:

You can’t. You could, years ago, but no longer.

There is no workaround. None of the Amex airline partners let you convert into Marriott AFAIK. (Virgin lets you go into Hilton and IHG.) It isn’t a Nectar partner so there is no Amex – Nectar – XXXXX opportunity.

United Airline premier level members can convert 50,000 miles annually to Marriott, but that won’t help you – and United is not a UK Amex partner anyway.
