I wrote last week about the new Marriott Rewards promotion linked to social media.

When you cut through the small print, it turns out that you can earn 2,000 Marriott Rewards points very easily be following / liking just 8 Marriott hotels each month on Twitter or Facebook.

The links to the Twitter and Facebook pages of the participating hotels are in this post from US site Doctor of Credit.  Once you’ve signed up, it will take literally two minutes to do your eight ‘likes’ or ‘follows’.

My points from this promotion are already arriving.

Marriott Plus Points

As promised, I was awarded 500 points as soon as I hit the seven day mark from originally linking my Twitter and Facebook accounts.

I received a further 1,000 points yesterday when I hit the seven day anniversary of following six hotels on Twitter.  This should have been 1,500 so clearly it did not track properly with two hotels.  Not to worry – I can easily do another two.

Since the points are clearly posting exactly on schedule, you might want to think about taking part if you are not already doing so.  The rewards are not massive if you don’t already have a Marriott account – the most you can earn is 12,000 points.

10,000 Marriott points will get you 2,000 airline miles and that will take five months to run up.  Alternatively, 10,000 points will also get you a night at a Category 2 Marriott hotel – a lot of the hotels in the AC chain in Spain are Category 2.  You won’t find any Category 2 hotels in the UK though.

This is certainly not the most lucrative promotion ever.  That said, it is unlikely to take more than 30 minutes of your life over the entire 6 months so it is a decent return on an hourly wage basis. If you already have a Marriott Rewards account with some points in it then I think its well worth it.

    Hi Raffles,

Does this means that you can do eight likes on FB within two minutes? Or do you have to do it once every 24 hours. Reading the T&Cs, still unclear about whether it is every calendar month (8th May to 7th June) or every 30 days (i.e the date when you first sign up for it)

    • Rob says:

You can do 8 likes in 2 minutes but then no more, assuming all 8 post, for 30 days

  • Maximus says:

These are free points, and a decent number of them, for very little effort. Whats not to like? For those of use who earn most of our airmiles on the ground, a great opportunity to earn a few more.

  • William Charles says:

Thanks again for the link, Raffles. It’s worth noting that Marriott looks like they aren’t actually capping it at 2,000 points per month like they claim. I liked 8 properties and received the points and then followed all of the accounts on twitter and received e-mails from confirming I’d receive 200 points per follow.

So it looks like it’s currently uncapped, I haven’t actually received more than the two thousand points yet – but others have!

    • Rob says:

To be honest, I would rather not take the risk of Marriott pulling my points (and me using up all the easy Twitter / FB wins) and play by the rules.

If you follow every hotel and then they take your points away, you won’t have anyone left to follow in the future months.

      • William Charles says:

No doubt, I’m playing by the rules on my own account and just testing things out with my girlfriends.

      • MaltaPoints Tom says:

The way I read it, you could simply “Twitter follow” or “Facebook like” 8 hotels, then after a week (i.e. the points qualification period) “unfollow/unlike” them, and then re-like/follow those same hotels for the next 30 day period.

That way, even if you went wild and followed a load of hotels in the first 30 days, they would still be available to you for a subsequent 30 day period.

  • Mark says:

I think the max monthly is 2000 from likes / follows – that’s all I got from 10 tries anyway. But you do get more *extra* from re-tweeting, if you can be bothered for 25 points per go!

  • N says:

The posting does seem a bit flaky. I have 1500 points for the six followed hotels, but nothing for linking accounts.

    • trickster says:

Got my linked account ones today, following doing this a week ago. Only done 2 hotel follows so far, so waiting for these to post before doing any more.

I got emails from Marriott for the ‘linking’ points posting. Do you get emails for the ‘following’ points posting too?

    • Simon says:

      Completely agree

I linked with facebook and twitter and neither of these seem to have posted points, just the 5 liked facebook hotels and Marriott rewards posted for me.

  • Czechoslovakia says:

Well, I`ve had an email confirming linking to a spam facebook account, but haven`t had any emails for likes to 8 hotels. Would be very handy to earn 10,000 points for me, as I usually stay in the Marriott Courtyard Prague airport, a class 2 hotel.

  • Simon says:

I’m into a new 30 period for this promo now as I started on May 9th but the email notifications seem to have stopped for me,
