Maximise your Avios, air miles and hotel points

Etihad Guest now offering 200 miles per HolidayCheck review you write

Back in February, I wrote about Etihad becoming the latest airline to partner with HolidayCheck.  This is a site which offers airline miles in return for reviewing hotels on their website. It seems that, in an attempt to compete with TripAdvisor, HolidayCheck needs to offer generous incentives to get you to review.

Etihad is now offering a bonus for writing Holiday Check reviews.  Until July 14th, you will earn 200 Etihad Guest miles for every hotel review you post on HolidayCheck.

You can find full details on the Etihad website here.  This does not mention the higher 200 miles bonus but it is mentioned on the HolidayCheck site here.

As Etihad allows you to cash out your miles for ‘virtual’ Visa cards via PointsPay at 0.4p per mile, you could effectively earn 80p per review by doing this even if you had no interest in the Etihad miles!  You need a minimum of 2,000 Etihad miles to use PointsPay.

Other airlines also let you earn miles via HolidayCheck.  These are:

Miles & More (100 miles per review)

airberlin topbonus  (150 miles per review)

You can also earn in the PINS programme which covers BalticMiles.

The Etihad deal is currently the most generous, and at 200 miles per (potentially brief) review you could top up an existing Etihad account quite easily whilst watching TV etc.  There is a maximum of 10 reviews per month.

How to earn Etihad Guest miles from UK credit cards

How to earn Etihad Guest miles from UK credit cards (April 2024)

Etihad Guest does not have a UK credit card.  However, you can earn Etihad Guest miles by converting Membership Rewards points earned from selected UK American Express cards.

Cards earning Membership Rewards points include:

Membership Rewards points convert at 1:1 into Etihad Guest miles which is an attractive rate.  The cards above all earn 1 Membership Rewards point per £1 spent on your card, which converts to 1 Etihad Guest mile. The Gold card earns double points (2 per £1) on all flights you charge to it.

Do you know if the “maximum of 10 reviews per month” rule is per calendar month, or per 30 days from the first review?

I’ve been asked to send in proof of stay on two occasions out of ten reviews. It does take a couple of minutes all in but worth it if you need it top up an Etihad account (bring back the 15k EY credit card sign up)

I got asked for proof of stay on two out of five reviews. I didn’t have them as I’d shredded one invoice when the points and credit card bills had cleared and the other was in my husband’s name. I didn’t bother following up with getting copies of the invoices either as I wasn’t that keen on the hassle of blacking out my address, frequent guest details, etc.
