Win a Radisson hotel stay …. for life

Hotel group Radisson has launched a competition with a twist.  The winner will receive five nights in any Radisson hotel ….. every year, for life.

It is an odd one.   Whilst the competition is open to countries worldwide (North Korea and Iran are notable exceptions ….) the weekly prizes are pretty useless to most people.  Each week of the competition, one entrant will win a free night in a North American Radisson.  This is not hugely useful to most of us.

On the other hand, there are big benefits to winning the grand prize if you are British.  Because competition prizes are taxable in the US, Radisson will pay you $214 per year, for life, to cover your annual tax charge.  As you will not face a tax charge in the UK, that is free money.

The prize comes in the form of a special Radisson card.  Amusingly, the rules clearly state that if you lose this card, Radisson will not replace it.  What do you think your chances are of not losing it over the course of 58 years?!

(The prize is capped at 58 years.  Although, after 58 years, you might have had enough of Radisson hotels anyway.)

Given that all you have to do is fill in an online form, you’ve nothing to lose by entering – even though you will be facing a lifetime of paperwork if you win.  The link to enter is here.

How to earn Radisson Rewards points and status from UK credit cards

How to earn Radisson Rewards points and status from UK credit cards (April 2024)

Radisson Rewards does not have a dedicated UK credit card. However, you can earn Radisson Rewards points by converting Membership Rewards points earned from selected UK American Express cards.

These cards earn Membership Rewards points:

Membership Rewards points convert at 1:3 into Radisson Rewards points which is a very attractive rate.  The cards above all earn 1 Membership Rewards point per £1 spent on your card, which converts to 3 Radisson Rewards points.

Even better, holders of The Platinum Card receive free Radisson Rewards Premium status for as long as they hold the card.  It also comes with Hilton Honors Gold, Marriott Bonvoy Gold and MeliaRewards Gold status.  We reviewed American Express Platinum in detail here.

Quebec banned but rest of Canada okay? When did independence happen?!

If you look at the rules for Norway, it says that after the drawing the winner will have to solve a “matimatical question”. First I thought that this was sill, but then I saw that Sweden was a banned country, and then I realised that this have to do with gambling laws in respectively country. Running this promotion in Sweden, Spain, France etc would (maybe) be against the law. In Norway, thay can go around the law by having a skill thing in the end (the same would actually work in Sweden, but the winner would then be taxed 50% UPFRONT of the value of the win.
