Maximise your Avios, air miles and hotel points

Spend 2 x £25, get £25 back with Amex Summer Shopping Online

Most British Airways American Express cardholders were emailed about this offer on Tuesday, but you can also take part if you have any other American Express card.

The first 24,000 people to register their American Express card via this site will receive a £25 statement credit when they spend £25 at TWO of the following retailers ONLINE:

Gap

Achica

Space.NK

Banana Republic

The White Company

Debenhams

Currys PC World (either website)

Virgin Wines

You need to make your transactions before August 24th.  The small print says that the charge should hit your American Express statement by this date, so in reality you need to order a few days before.

What is not clear is whether you can make two purchases at the same retailer.  The website implies that it should be two different retailers but it is not explicit.

You can register supplementary cards for this offer as well as main cards.

Code WELCOME2014 gets you £10 off a £50 spend at Achica at any point during 2014 if you were thinking of buying something there.

Be careful if you try to buy gift cards to qualify for this deal.  Debenhams sells gift cards online but you are taken to a third-party website to make your purchase.  This could mean that you do would not receive the credit as the payment will not be processed by Debenhams.  Similarly, currys.co.uk redirects to currysgiftcards.co.uk which is not a qualifying website.

However, in our comments section yesterday, TimS posted:  “Debenhams should be fine. When I bought Debenhams gift vouchers online for the recent statement credit it showed up as ‘Debenhams.com Southampton’.  So you never know ….

    The confirmation email reads:

“You have successfully registered your Card so it’s time to get shopping.

Receive a £25 statement credit when you make two separate transactions of £25 or more on your registered American Express® Card at any two of the participating online merchants listed below from 22 July to 24 August 2014.*”
Sounds to me like it definitely has to be 2 transactions at ANY 2 participating retailers. I don’t think 2 transactions at Gap, for example, will earn credit

  • Jason says:

Yeah, I read it like that as well. But spending on two cards, £100 off isn’t bad. I need another HDMI cable, and the good ones cost over £50 🙂

  • Corrine says:

I need to buy a new washing machine 🙁 if I goto pc world buy some vouchers (on my card) then goto Currys and put the rest on the card at Currys – I’m guessing this would work ???

    • AndyGWP says:

I dont think so because it needs to be online! 😉

    • squills says:

Can PC World Gift Cards be used at every PC World store?

PC World gift cards are accepted in any PC World, Currys, Currys.digital and Dixon Travel Stores

      • squills says:

So feasibly Primary + Supplementary cardholders could each buy (online) 1 x £25 voucher in both Curry’s & PC World (ie 4 in total), use them in store in one outlet, one transaction and get a £50 statement credit. Yes.

It all hinges on whether the websites you buy the vouchers from are recognised by Amex as PC World/ Curry’s.

        • squills says:

Can I use my card straightaway?

All cards purchased in store and cards under £100 purchased on-line are activated (unless you have chosen 1st class delivery for a card of £50 or more).

  • squills says:

    It’s all perfectly clear, see:

This means if you make two transactions of a minimum of £25 at each of two participating merchants, (hence minimum £50 spent in total), the rewards will be applied to the net transaction amount of £25.

  • Rohan says:

Does it not mean that you can do this twice at two retailers . I.e. Buy twice at gap and recieve one £25 credit and do it again at say Debenhams . So £50 credit per card ?

    • Jonny says:

I’m pretty sure it means spend £25 at each of 2 separate retailers and get £25 back

    • Jason says:

Primary and supplementary cards can be registered as well:-)

  • Hugo says:

Most of these shops are on the BA-365 retail shopping / Avios earning portal (for added Avios points navigate to the shop via the portal)

  • squills says:

The good thing about trying the online gift vouchers to see if that works is: you’re not exactly risking anything, provided you would in due course spend some money @ PC World etc anyway. The statement credit will show in a couple of days. If you don’t get it, you’ve got bags of time to buy something else that does qualify.

    • Stephen says:

Hopefully squills or some other nice person will report back and let us know if the gift cards do count towards this promotion!

      • squills says:

Yep the key thing now is get your cards registered ie be sure to be in the first 24,000 😉

    • JQ says:

The problem with that is there is absolutely nothing worth buying at PC World unless you are spending someone else’s money.

  • squills says:

One snag is MBNA/BMI cards for primary + supplementary share the same number so can’t be registered twice. No problem with Gold. Other cards?
