New IHG PointBreaks list of 150 x 5,000 point hotels below, book on Monday afternoon

Yesterday, IHG Rewards Club (the Holiday Inn, HI Express, Crowne Plaza, InterContinental etc group) released a “preview” of the new list of PointBreaks redemptions via its private online community.

All of these hotels are available for just 5,000 IHG Rewards Club points per night – saving up to 45,000 points on InterContinental redemptions.

PointBreaks availability is very limited so book ASAP if you are interested, as soon as bookings open up on Monday.  Bookings are refundable as with a standard reward reservation.  IHG works on US time so I would not expect the offer to be available until mid-afternoon in the UK.

You can book via the IHG PointBreaks page here or via the standard booking page here.  If the PointBreaks page has not yet been updated, it does not necessarily mean that the special deals below will not already be bookable – do a search to check.

You will be able to book these hotels for dates up to September 30th.

Under the new PointBreaks rule, you allowed a maximum of two bookings per individual hotel.  Each booking can be for as many nights as you want.

Remember that if you attempt to amend your booking later by dropping a night or two it will reprice at the full rate.

As usual, if there is a property on the list that coincides with somewhere you want to go, you’ve got a bargain.  Whilst the list is rather eclectic, the properties do at least focus on city centre locations.  There are some decent InterContinental redemptions in the Americas (e.g. Costa Rica) and the InterContinental Bucharest. Holiday Inn Valencia might make a cheap short break.

    Thanks as ever for the heads up on this. Does anyone have any experience of booking a reward room and then someone else using the room? I am thinking specifically of using the points to book a room for my brother for a forthcoming trip to the USA . He had the same surname and same initial. The rewards T &C ‘s state the reward is valid ” provided the IHG® Rewards Club member number is recorded on each reservation ” . Was wondering how strict the reception staff on checking ID ?

      I’ve not done it but it should be fine as long as his name is on the booking as the additional name – this will give him check in privileges.

      Also, once a hotel was being funny about making sure that the card used to book the room (even on points) is used on check in.

      IHG is very flexible. Book room for 2 people, on the last page of the booking process is a box for ‘Extra Guest’, add his name here. In the comments say ‘Mr Jones will check-in first’. Job done.

      Note that this can fail in some countries with tight ID laws like Spain, although I managed to fudge it last year when I used this same trick. US will be fine.

    Thanks for the info. I wasn’t aware of the extra guest box so will use this to put my brothers details in and also that he will check in first. Hopefully he won’t have to hide his wife though as she won’t be on the booking

    May I slightly hijack the post and ask whether a Holiday Inn booked through Expedia for example, will allow Free Internet access so long as I show my Rewards Club membership (i.e. they don’t need you to book directly?) Thank you

      Yes – the rules say – Internet Access for Members: Beginning 6 January 2014, standard internet access will be available to all IHG® Rewards Club members at no additional cost at all IHG hotels located globally (except Europe) with or without a hotel booking and/or qualifying stay. Hotels in Europe will be included in July 2014. IHG® Rewards Club Elite Status members have standard internet access at no additional cost at all IHG hotels worldwide. Internet availability in common areas varies by hotel. Internet accessibility, speed, and connectivity in common areas and guest rooms vary by hotel. Details regarding a property’s internet accessibility are available at the hotel’s registration desk. Please note that The Venetian® and The Palazzo®, an InterContinental Alliance® Resort, do not offer the Free Internet Access benefit, which is instead included in the daily resort fee.

    Further to John’s original question. I am booked in for one night at the Holiday Inn Express Tuscon in August and on the same night I would like to book my son into an Indigo Hotel in Toronto. Do you think this would be possible? My thinking, I’m on business and hope to not need the room in Tuscon but register him as the extra guest in Toronto, then unfortunately I couldn’t get away from Tuscon?

      Will be fine. You might not get points from Tuscon tho, one of the 2 stays will be treated as overlapping and given zero .

    A slightly better UK list than the last one which was all Express’

    HI Preston has to be one of the strangest HIs I have ever been in. There are only standard rooms whilst they have a fifteen parking space for a one hundred room hotel. So unless you are there at 2pm you have to park in the not very safe looking bus station car park opposite. On the plus side they serve one of the best HI breakfasts I’ve ever had.

    Is it me or have they changed the list, I’m sure Slough was available at the start of the week as well as Langley in BC, neither seem available any more or on the list on the website

    Or am I just too slow

      Too slow. There is a cap on the number of rooms per hotel and when that is reached they drop off. That is why I encouraged people to book quickly.

      Really good ones disappear in a couple of hours although Slough is not in that category!
