How to convert ANY number of Accor points to Avios

There is quite a bit of confusion surrounding how to convert Le Club Accorhotels (the Novotel, Ibis, Sofitel, Mercure etc programme) points into Avios.  With the help of HfP reader Tony, I have got to the bottom of it this week.

Tony and I have confirmed that you can convert ANY Accor balance into Avios.  You do NOT need the minimum of 3,000 points as stated on their website.  However, you need to follow a specific route.

Before we get into the conversion process, remember the key oddity of the Accor programme.  As per this page of the Accor website:

Sofitel Heathrow Accor

  • Conversions into British Airways Executive Club go 2:1
  • Conversions into Iberia Plus go 1:1

I can confirm that the Iberia ratio of 1:1 is accurate.   It is therefore essential that you open an Iberia Plus account via the Iberia website and send your Accor points there.  You can then move your Avios from Iberia Plus to BAEC via ‘Convert My Avios’.

How to convert your existing Accor points to Avios

If you have over 3,000 Accor points, this is easy.  Log in to your Accor account, click on ‘Manage My Account’, ‘My Loyalty Card’ and then ‘My Rewards’.

If you click through and select Iberia Plus, your current balance – assuming you have at least 3,000 points – will be transferred to Avios immediately.  It will round down to the nearest 3,000 points and leave the remaining points in your account.

If you do not have 3,000 Accor points, it won’t work.  You need to use Plan B.

If you have fewer than 3,000 Accor points ….

Don’t ask why what I am about to show you works.  Just trust me, it does work.

Step 1:  Go to this website which promotes an airberlin offer for Accor.

Step 2:  Scroll to the bottom left corner and log in

Step 3:  You will be taken to the usual Le Club Accorhotels log-in page.  Follow the same steps I outlined above – click on ‘Manage My Account’, ‘My Loyalty Card’ and then ‘My Rewards’ – and then click on the same box I showed above.  Add your Iberia Plus details.

The only difference between these two processes is that, for balances under 3,000 Accor points, you need to go to the Accor website via the airberlin page I link to in Step 1.

On the account of my wife, her Accor account dropped to zero points.  Within 24 hours, her 2,800 points had been deposited into her newly opened Iberia Plus account at a conversion rate of 1:1.

If you do not want points from future stays to be converted automatically, change your earnings preference back to points following the steps in Step 3 above and click on the other box this time.

When clicking the airberlin accor link I can’t seem to find where existing members can log in. Only where you can register to create a new account. Can anyone help? Thanks

  • Dave Stringer says:

Bottom left corner – Accor number and email address for me.

Alas the site then turns Greek and I’ve no idea what to do. It does look like 2,000 points is the Iberia minimum though.

    Confused. Again.

  • Alex says:

I am afraid it does not work for me. After step 3, I am just taken to a page where it’s asking again for my email address, which then gets highlighted in red in error with no explanation.

  • Alex says:

Yes the site turns Russian, and even if you click on the big button in Russian, you are then just taken to the normal accor site, which is a mess at the best of times. Accor has got to be the worst designed loyalty site in existence.

    • Jonathan says:

I get the Russian site too and it looks like I’m not logged in. This is on my iPhone, will try a normal browser in a bit.

      • TimS says:

At the very bottom of the page (below the log in bit) is a drop down list to change the language so you can go back to English if your Russian is a little rusty!

        • Jonathan says:

Found that and it tells me to deactivate my current conversion. Having done that, still looks like 2000 is the minimum. 🙁

I have done something similar to what sandgrounder describes in the distant past. It worked. There was a thread about it on FT and I just followed the instructions there. Obviously, it may not work anymore…

    • Rob says:

How very weird! It doesn’t turn Russian for me! Internet Explorer may be your friend.

      • Mr Bridge says:

Google chrome translate the page, then it all works as raffles says in his post.

I did it yesterday, got email today confirming my points have been sent to iberia

  • CapnJack says:

I get a 404 page not available error. Accor back to their old tricks?

  • johnjane says:

How does this affect the current 1500 bonus Avios offer ?

    • tony says:

It doesn’t. The thing is you need to set it up for Avios to get the bonus. If you breach the 4k limit they will tip across to BA Avios at 2:1.

However, it’s not that easy to rack up the Accor points. I spent 2 nights in a Novotel that was comparatively expensive and even with the bonus only got c. 3,800 points.

The only thing is you’ll have to keep switching the preference back to Avios from Iberia after you’ve done the transfer.

  • Rich says:

Is there any way to convert these the other way, Avios – > Accor?

  • fbrj says:

Remember 2000pts = €40 cash equivalent (voucher or redeemed off booking) ie about £32 or 1.6p/point. In other words you need to make sure you get at least 1.6p/avios value once converted.

    • Rob says:

My wife had over 2,000, but I honestly didn’t see any way of using those for a hotel voucher. €40 would only cover a fraction of a room bill (a room I could get for absolutely nothing using Hilton, IHG or Starwood points) and I can’t see any Accor-family properties on the horizon anyway.

I am happy to take the (overpriced) Avios and empty out the account. All of those 2,800 points came from one stay my wife did which is unlikely to be repeated given it was in Sochi! I haven’t stayed in an Accor property myself for about 5 years (Luxembourg).

      • Nick Burch says:

Accor Happy Mondays can be a good way to use these up for nearly last minute bookings. Something like a Mercure or a Novotel can be had for 2,000 points and about a fiver, assuming booking on a Monday or Tuesday for that coming weekend works out for you!
