Decent BA / SPG / Gold / Platinum Amex offer – £10 off £30 at WH Smith

A decent new American Express promotion has appeared in the online accounts of many people.   I have it showing under my Platinum card although it is not showing for my SPG or BA Amex.  My wife does have it showing for her BA Amex.

The deal offers £10 statement credit when you spend £30 at WH Smith.  It is valid for the first 30,000 people to register.

If you think that WH Smith doesn’t have much to offer, think again.  The larger (non-railway and non-airport) stores tend to sell a decent range of gift cards for a start.  This effectively means that you can transfer your £10 saving to a different retailer altogether.

Stocking up on stamps is another possibility.  You will also find a range of toys in some stores as well as the usual books, magazines etc.

If you can find a suitably large store – for Londoners, there is a good one just a few steps from Chancery Lane tube station for example – you could save yourself a few pounds across various Amex cards relatively easily.

The deadline for spending the £30 is 15th October.

    I only got the WHSmith one on my platinum but foursquare have the same offer so check in with a linked card and you can do it that way, this worked for me and I see the statement credit on my BA Amex

    This also works through Foursquare. I used my BMI Amex in the Stratford station store to buy two £15 iTunes cards. They also had some high street retailer cards.

    How long do you allow for the statement credit to show on your account? I did the two £25 spend at Pc world/currys over a month ago but nothing showing in my account so far.

      The statement credits usually appear within 2 days of the transaction posting on your account. You need to escalate this with Amex

      I had the same problem, I contacted them through the AmEx website, explained the purchases including dates and amounts and the credited me within a couple of day.

      I think with that offer you had to do a transaction at two separate merchants participating in the offer. I got the credit after a day after my currys transaction; having done a debenhams one a week earlier.

    I won’t be offered anymore. If you have an Amex card from Amex, they usually sent an email saying you’ve sucessfully registered. On the Foursquare route, if you’ve made sure that the right card is connected and it says “Added” in the screen, then in my experience there are no issues.

    Good question, as you don’t need to register. However, 30000 is a huge number – the biggest ever for this sort of deal I think – so you should be OK. If by some miniscule chance you don’t get it, a quick moan to Amex would see £10 compensation without a doubt.

        Debenhams, House of Fraser, Boots, M&S, Starbucks, Pizza Expres, Cafe Rouge….. The list goes on. Obviously Amazon is direct competition for WHSmith, so they don’t sell those.
