Join ‘The Club of Small Luxury Hotels of the World’ at ‘Loved’ level

  I wouldn’t go quite so far as to say joining is a no-brainer. Very often booking through SLH is more expensive than booking direct with the hotel or through other websites. Room upgrades are also ‘subject to availability’. I’ve yet to have one on a stay.

    Do you have to book through their website? ie if you already have a booking with one of their hotels would you still receive the benefits?

      Unlikely because SLH would not be getting there commission. No harm in asking at check-in though.

  If i sign up and then book say the Iroquois in New York via Hotels.com….would i still get the upgrade and breakfast?

    In theory no. If you pull out your SLH card at check-in they might do it as a favour. But they are no more likely to do this than if you book a Holiday Inn via hotels.com and then pull out an IHG Platinum card at check-in and ask for your benefits.

    the t’s and c’s seem to suggest that unless you book via the club then it is not a “qualifying stay” so it’s likely that you would not get any of the benefits. you can’t even book direct with the hotel!

  You also need to be very careful about selecting the correct rate, even when booking through SLH, as some rates (as I found out recently) were not eligible for Avios points. I didn’t even get a room upgrade so was really peeved off!

  I’ve never heard of this company before, but just signed up for the sake of the offer.

  I’d been thinking about having a pre-Christmas trip to Paris, and a speculative search for hotels in Paris turned up Hôtel San Régis in a Deluxe Junior Suite for €195 for three nights on the ‘City Sanctuaries’ rate. I booked it immediately on impulse, but I am a little suspicious.

  Given that the most basic room was well over €1,000 for the same 3 nights, this seems a very good deal, if true. Hopefully we won’t arrive in Paris and be laughed out of the hotel.

      The rooms are all quite different, but it’s a bit ‘old money’.

      Still, for £50/night I doubt you’d get much else in Paris!
