Hilton launches a 7-day flash sale for Autumn weekends

  Interesting how plenty of generous deals appeared for Autumn on a short notice. Hilton has this and a sale before, 160 EUR from Accor, SPG was first with various extra points.

  Note that this goes towards business folks. Leisure travellers are likely to have made their plans and a booking two nights somewhere in Frankfurt/UK in Oct-Nov is hardly a getway holiday.

  Perhaps the economy is not where they anticipated it.

      Interesting. Having read the vast array of poor reviews on Tripadvisor, I gave the hotel the opportunity to comment on my own specific needs. They certainly did not fill me with confidence, thus I avoided them accordingly.

  “Waldorf Astoria Cavalieri… Given my best guess of the price of breakfast here, the breakfast-inclusive rate is by far the better deal unless you have Hilton HHonors status.”
  AFAIK status doesn’t get you free breakfast at Waldorf properties – I’ve always had to pay extra despite being a gold member.

      Although sadly this WA used to be an exception, certainly as a Diamond they used to give free breakfast. This has now changed to a ‘special rate’ of €20 – not sure how much of a discount this is.

        This would normally have excited me, being a diamond, but needing to sometimes frivolously book stays to keep diamond. However, since staying in an Accor hotel, and getting top tier through platinum Amex, I’m letting my Diamond lapse.

          What I meant to say was that I believe the Hilton’s have lost their way. They’ve become the tesco’s of the hotel world, everywhere, losing their focus. I had such a great stay at The Sofitel Grand Ducal, it made me realise what a hotel stay should be. And it wasn’t badly priced.

          I think they have turned a corner in recent years. Some decent new Hilton branded openings (eg St George’s Park which I reviewed), upmarket Conrad and W-A hotels rolling out and Hampton (which is far better than Holiday Inn Express) starting to gain traction. They will always be dragged down by the reputation of a lot of the old UK branded Hilton properties. Hilton Gold free breakfast and free internet offer is also worthwhile.

          Indeed, a bit hit or miss – I was pretty impressed with the Doubletree Tower Bridge at the weekend though and with the extensive breakfast at the Hilton Stockholm.

  Quite a few prices listed are total tosh. For example Doubletree Edinburgh at £55 doesn’t exist cheapest is in the £70s. Will send some to the ASA. Hilton Liverpool can be had for £62 but is £175 in the “sale”.

    Those prices are theoretically the cheapest price on offer on a weekend date before the end of January – it is not the price for every weekend.

      I think the Hilton site is messed up at the moment – not sure if it’s specifically to do with this offer though – I usually try the Public Sector rate and on doing so there are rate ‘headlines’ coming up against hotels, but once you click through to view the actual hotel the lowest price does not exist (it jumps up)

        Normally you search using a promotional code the flash sale prices aren’t displayed.

        I have a corporate discount code and if i use this the flash sale prices aren’t displayed

          First hotel in the list (Hilton Garden Inn) comes up as from £68, click on it though and cheapest price is £91… i’m not going mad am I?

          I see what you mean – for some reason none of the rooms that come up show the public sector rate, yet by comparison it works fine for the Doubletree at £65!

    Don’t forget the “Second Guest [ie partner] Stays Free” benefit for all HHonors members.

    On this basis, and the fact that under 18s (and certainly under 12s) generally stay free, I simply book the room for me and the two kids and then the wife turns up on the day under this offer.

    Of course you need to make sure the room will fit the four of you (my boys are both under 4), but you can often get perfectly manageable 2 x queen bed rooms appearing on a 1 adult + 2 kids search, which won’t appear on a 2 adults and 2 kids search. Plus with my Gold status we generally get upgraded anyway, so it works very well.

    Hilton has been quite pro-active with sales this year – I would be very surprised if there wasn’t something else between now and March.
