Maximise your Avios, air miles and hotel points

Tesco deals – even more giftcard points, 2880 Avios on wine, 360 Avios on DVDs

Links on Head for Points may support the site by paying a commission.  See here for all partner links.

Tesco has launched a number of generous Clubcard promotions.  All of these will give you bonus Clubcard points which can be converted into Avios points or Virgin Flying Club miles.

Deal 1:  100 Clubcard points on a £20 gift card purchase

Page 120 of the new Tesco magazine (the Christmas edition) contains a coupon for 100 bonus Clubcard points when you spend £20 on any gift card (Tesco giftcards excluded).

This will work on top of the standard promotion of 150 Clubcard points for spending £50 on gift cards.

250 Clubcard points (600 Avios) is an excellent deal for buying £50 of gift cards.  You may even get 350 points for a £50 purchase if you can persuade the cashier to scan two coupons.  If you are a regular visitor to Pizza Express, New Look, Debenhams or the many other retailers whose gift cards are sold by Tesco, it would make sense to stock up.

Deal 2:  1200 Clubcard points for £120 wine spend or 500 points for six bottle purchase

These codes offer a great return if you are stocking up for Christmas drinking with a visit to the Tesco online wine store.

Code XXPL7G gets you 1,200 points (2,880 Avios) for a £120 spend.  This code will NOT work for everyone.

Codes are XX4MJH and XXLLG4 offer 500 bonus points when used for a six bottle purchase.  This code came with the Tesco Wine magazine so may be easier to redeem.

The £120 code should work on the price before any discounts – such as the current ‘25% off 12 bottles’ deal – are taken off so your actual spend needed may be lower.

Deal 3:  150 bonus points when you pre-order a DVD

Over at Tesco Direct, the following DVDs are available to pre-order.  You will receive 150 Clubcard points (360 Avios, 375 Virgin miles) with each one.  This offer should double up with any bonus points DVD coupon you may have received in the post recently.

Prices start at £10.

Seven titles are shown via this link (expire 23 November)

Three more titles are here including Inbetweeners 2 (expires 30 November)

Two more are here including the latest Expendables (expires 7 December)

And finally Into The Storm is here (expires 14 December)

There are also five Blu-Ray disks offering 200 bonus points (480 Avios) which you can find here.

don’t forget the coupon on the last page – might as well pull that one out and hand in for a chance to win £100 gift card. Also the £5 off £40 coupon it spits out for spending £40 is valid from 24/11/2014 to 30/11/2014.

    • Mikeact says:

      Not against gift vouchers though.

      • TimS says:

        Depends on the checkout operator.

I’ve used Helping Hand vouchers against 3v cards before. They dont allow them against TESCO gift vouchers but others are usually ok.

If challenged, I just ask them to scan it and see. It always takes it.

        • Mij says:

Yep – still scans through. Used many times even the money off vouchers you get with your clubcard statement.

  • Adam says:

Be careful when picking up numerous copies of the mag, someone got caught yesterday with 168 copies in their car in a Tesco car park and have had all the mags confiscated, cc accounts frozen while they are investigated by the fraud dept.

    • Polly says:

That’s just plain greedy and ruins it for the rest of us who behave responsibly.

  • ee says:

Plenty of family living books in Colchester Highwoods earlier. They’re behind the tills, around half way along

  • Mikeact says:

Is there a way to ‘cash them in’ for face value. Looking on the 3V site, I can put them in my bank account at £3.50 a time which is a bit steep…any other way ?

    • CC says:

Use them as top-up payments against bt, mobile phone bills, sky account etc. All allow overpayment and just adjust your direct debit accordingly. In effect the cards become cash free. Also if you use Amazon a lot you can buy their giftcards

      • TimS says:

Vodafone, Sky and E-On are the easiest for churning in my house.

Amazon is good for small leftover balances if necessary.

  • Adam says:

Its hard to find avenues to turn the purchase of 3v cards back into real cash. Some claim over on FT to have found another ns&i route but will not tell so a closely guarded secret.
You can try gambling sites, deposits and withdraws but these have their pitfalls as i have found out this weekend, an account i have used for a while has suddenly been frozen and i have had to submit a number of id docs, scan of bank cards etc to get my money out, still not finalised but after i get my money i have decided to not bother anymore, i have paid up council tax, utilities, water bills, gift vouchers etc so had a goid run.

  • Fenny says:

Plenty of mags in big Tesco in the centre of Stevenage. Just picked up 10 with my toothpaste. No 3V cards, though.

  • David says:

I would very much like to have a good scan of the coupon because my local store does not have any magazines and they do not expect to get any, some stores just don’t get them, apparently. I have a good relationship with the staff at my local (small) Tesco which has a lot of 3V Cards and staff are happy to take a home-printed coupon. So if anyone can help post here and I will send my details. Thank you.

    • Grimz says:

give me your address and I will send you an original copy. address on here maybe not a good idea but let me know how best to do this and I will help you out!

      • David says:

        Hello,

Someone who knows me has got in touch so thanks for the offer but I am sorted now.

Regarding this new NS&I scheme. There can only be a few possibilities to pay it in if its really true its possible to pay them in again…

        • Grimz says:

okay no problem and thanks for the tip off. I opened a NSI account last year but never used it as they stopped the 3v pay in before I got to it!

I need to check how much 3v I have used this year as I must be getting close to my 25k limit!

        • kevin cottrell says:

You would help the rest of us who also would be able to us a printed one if you posted it on here.

          Thanking you in anticipation.

          K

          • Grimz says:

Ok I will but I don’t have access to a scanner till Monday.

          • Fenny says:

The t&c say “copied, damaged or defaced coupons will not be accepted”, so beware of scans. Not all checkout operators are so accommodating.

  • David says:

Hi Kevin, on Flyertalk there is a chap who can help you. See the FT thread over there.
