Would you support Leeds United for a 30% hotel discount?

Links on Head for Points may support the site by paying a commission.  See here for all partner links.

Last year the IHG hotel group, parent of Holiday Inn, InterContinental, Crowne Plaza, Holiday Inn Express etc, launched a generous promotion code for its UK and selected European properties to supporters of Leeds United football club.

This is not as odd as it sounds because IHG is the ‘official hotel partner’ of Leeds United.

The offer was meant to end on 31st December for stays by 31st January.  The booking website is still working perfectly well, however.

The headline discount is 30% off Best Flexible Rate for weekend stays and, where available, 10% off for weekday stays.

In truth, this is not just an offer for Leeds United supporters.  It is a broader ‘Partner Rate’ that IHG also offers to members of various trade unions, alumni groups, professional bodies etc.

As an example of rates, the Holiday Inn Sheffield comes up at £91 for a random weekend in February using this rate.  The best price without using the link is £114.

The terms and conditions of this rate say that you should print off an IHG voucher or bring along ‘proof’ of your eligibility – presumably a Leeds United scarf would do it.

More seriously, this is very unlikely to be an issue.  However, if you want to be 100% secure, you can download and print off an IHG partner rate voucher here (PDF file).

When it comes to earning IHG Rewards Club points, you should be OK.  Any discount bigger than 30% often causes problems, but 30% should be fine.  For safety, take a screenshot of the page at the end of the booking process which shows how many points your stay will earn.  IHG will usually award you the points if you can prove their site told you that a rate will earn.
