Taxi discounts: GetTaxi launches in six new cities plus a £10 Hailo code for London

Links on Head for Points may support the site by paying a commission.  See here for all partner links.

GetTaxi, the app which allows you to order a black cab directly from your iOS or Android phone, announced yesterday that it has launched in six new cities.

As well as London, you can now use them in:

Edinburgh

Liverpool

Manchester

Birmingham

Leeds

Glasgow

This is quite a coup for GetTaxi and immediately puts them ahead of Hailo which is currently only available in London.  Hailo, originally the market leader, has struggled as drivers have defected to GetTaxi (following a decision by Hailo to offer Mercedes cars as well as taxis) and as it was forced to pull out of New York after making large losses.

If you sign up for GetTaxi via this link you will receive £10 of free credit, valid in any of the cities above.  This is my refer-a-friend link which means I also receive some credit for introducing you, which will be used to run my kids to their swimming lessons and back!

£10 sign-up code for Hailo

Speaking of Hailo, the London black cab taxi app has released a new sign-up code.  This will get you £10 of free Hailo credit when you download the Hailo app.

The promotional code is BTS10 and is valid until Sunday 1st March.  It is aimed at attendees at the Business Travel Show at Olympia but anyone can use it.

And also ….

Don’t forget our other London taxi and minicab discount codes:

£15 off your first Uber trip (also good in Manchester and Leeds)

£10 off your first Kabbee minicab ride in London

£10 off your next 5 Addison Lee minicab rides in London (expires on Monday 16th)

    Done thanks for the tip

  • richie says:

Does the uber code only work in uk?

  • FIRSTclstraveller says:

Do you happen to know the expiry dates on the Get Taxi, Uber and Kabbee please?

    • Rob says:

GetTaxi and Uber credit does not expire, at least not in the short term. Perhaps in 6 months or so.

Kabbee codes must be spent within 2 weeks of activating the code.

    • shadowfixer says:

The expiry date on my coupon (Using Raffles code) is Dec 27 2214. Hopefully i will have used it by then.

NB code did not seem to work for me.

    • Jonathan says:

I just registered and code o2priority worked for me, though the GetTaxi one didn’t.

Did this credit instantly for other people?

  • Harry Holden says:

Had my first Uber experience yesterday. Great service, but no credit for me. I filled in a review request, and received a reply that “the code is only valid in the USA”.

Oh well. 10/10 for the service. Minus several million for good thinking.

    • Rob says:

You need to be careful with Uber codes found online. Codes are only valid for rides billed in the currency of the code. However, next time you are in the US it will still be on your account.

      • Harry says:

Thanks Rob. This was the “Uberheadforpoints” code for £10 off, so either Uber are mistaken or something has gone very wrong. Interestly, it does show as “Free trip up to $30 from Robert” on my account.

        • Rob says:

Something has gone very wrong. uberheadforpoints is definitely a £10 off code. You downloaded the app whilst in the UK?

          • Harry says:

I did, about a week ago. I have responded to Uber and will come back with what transpires.

          • Rob says:

OK. I have direct contacts into Uber London (I am one of very few people who does I think!) so let me know if you don’t get any response and I will get Natalie on the case.

  • Harry says:

I have a response that resolves the issue without really explaining to me what went wrong. I set the account up on my iPhone sat in a London hotel. I was not using Wi-Fi, just the cell network.

The response from Uber is below:

I’ve taken a deeper look into this, and it looks like your profile location settings were set to the US, which is why your credits didn’t apply to your fare. Unfortunately you can’t use these credits in the UK and we aren’t able to convert them into Pounds for you.
But no worries, I’ve changed your profile settings to the UK, and since this was your first trip with us, I’ve gone ahead and I’ve adjusted your fare to reflect the promo code. 🙂 I hope this helps! Apologies for the confusion earlier.
Please let me know if I can help with anything else. Hope to see you in an Uber soon.
    Kindest,

    All’s well that ends well.

    • Rob says:

Glad it got sorted. Odd that my code generated $30 of credit instead of £10 though. Uber is very proactive – if you have any issues, get in touch and they generally comp your trip (not sure if the driver loses the fare money though).
