News in brief:

New British Airways Winter routes launched

British Airways has announced two new routes from Heathrow for the Winter season.

First is Reykjavik in Iceland, a city which has come and gone from the BA route map on various occasions.  This service will operate three days a week from October 25th.  Flights will leave on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday, allowing for a 48-hour weekend break.

Second up, from December 5th, is Heathrow to Salzburg.  This will be in addition to the existing Gatwick flight.  The timings are a little odd with just two flights a week – on Saturday and Sunday.  You may end up mixing and matching with the Gatwick service to get the length of trip you want.

Flights are already available for booking for cash and Avios on ba.com.

Singapore Airlines economy class sale to Asia and Australasia

A quick mention, as I am flying them next week, of Singapore Airlines new Asia sale.  These seats are available for booking by May 15th for outbound travel by July 10th.

You can fly from Manchester or Heathrow – although note that the Manchester flight stops in Frankfurt.

Headline prices are £490 to Bangkok, £535 to Bali, £540 to Phuket, £620 to Perth and £660 to Sydney.  More details on the Singapore Airlines website here.

Head for Points on You and Yours

Finally, if you missed my discussion about the Avios devaluation on BBC Radio 4’s You and Yours yesterday, you can find the programme at http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b05tkvk6

The Avios piece starts around 31 minutes in.

Good performance on Radio 4 yesterday. I think the MAN-SIN flight actually goes via Munich not FRA as stated.

  • James67 says:

An OT bit: over at businesstraveller they have an article claiming both a380s and London routes at MAS are safe. Something not quite adding up here given a380s are supposedly up for sale. The “forseeable future” is likely the key phrase, they are probably now losing business to BA since the restructuring announcment. Since devaluation the route and MH as a partner has become less attractive. Although BA CW on a 777 is insuperior, it probably now represents best option on the route when combined with a 241.

    • CV3V says:

Its confirmed that the MAS FRA flight will be cancelled from end of May. However, I’ve always been told that the LHR and CDG routes would be kept. The AMS route likely kept, in part it’s a codeshare with KLM.

Odd situation with A380s, mixed reports on loads varying between oversold to very quiet. However the MAS A380 business class is a much better product than BA CW – which I will find out for myself with a 2-4-1 booking coming up shortly.

      • James67 says:

BA must be selling well as prices recently shot up. Fortunately I bagged KUL-GLA-KUL WTP UUA CW for £875 for September and November in the last but one premium sale. Like you I would prefer MH a380.

  • CV3V says:

Also Qatar have another Business Class sale on, some cheap prices ex AMS on weekdays.

  • Justin says:

Just booked an economy return to KEF. Still no idea what the Tier points and miles are going to be, booking says zero and the helpline not sure either!

    • zark says:

Reykjavik is 20K Avios + £35 RFS round trip in economy – peak BA rates.
      Hope that helps

  • Froggitt says:

If any HFP readers tuned in to You and Yours early, I suspect that at least half of them will have topped themselves after listening to the previous programme. Is that depressing drivel where my license fee goes?

    • Worzel says:

      Froggitt, you could be right.

Maybe Rob will have an indication in due course if there’s a major downturn in site hits?

I just managed to make it through, listening in the kitchen with knives close at hand! 🙂 .

  • Neil says:

The MAN flight does indeed go via Munich – it’s my favourite way to get there – the return’s a bit of a killer though that early – usually runs empty to be fair though

  • Hardip says:

    Hi raffles,

I was wondering if there will ever be another 50% Avios sale this year? I am looking to go Singapore sometime in the very near future.

    • Rob says:

Given the scheme changes, anything could happen if Avios sales to Amex and Tesco start to drop …. honestly no idea though.

  • Keith Hunt says:

Can you tell me why when i do a search for Hotel/Seat there are no seats…….But when i search just seats to Reykjavik all 9 are available?.
