News in brief:
Hilton HHonors launches a UK-only competition
Reader Alan helpfully pointed me in the direction of this competition which Hilton is running exclusively for Hilton HHonors members in the UK. Apparently some HfP readers are seeing it advertised on the site although I have never seen it.
The prizes are good and include a New York holiday with a stay in a Presidential Suite, hospitality package to the British Grand Prix including hotel, hospitality package to the BMW PGA Championship and an ‘Ultimate Football Experience’ for 12 people at Hilton St George’s Park (see my review and photo below) at the National Football Centre.
The closing date is July 5th. All you need to do to enter is go here, enter your Hilton HHonors account number and click. UK residents only.
Heathrow Terminal 2 trialling a new tunnel transfer option
Whilst Terminal 5 has the train to take you from the main building to the satellites, Terminal 2 does not. You have a v-e-r-y long walk on a moving walkway.
As an experiment, the airport is currently trialling these:
I saw one in action this week and was impressed. For a start, they are funky – or about as funky as such a thing can be. They seat six people. The plan, if the trial works, is to install two and have them permanently shuttling up and down the tunnel. This is fairly easy as I would imagine 95% of people take the travelator because of the distance.
American Express Travel launches its own hotel sale
Amex Travel has launched a small hotel sale, promising discounts of up to 50% of standard rates. These deals must be booked via the American Express Travel website and will require an Amex card for payment.
Details of the properties included are here. You need to book by 30th June for travel by 15th July.
One property included is the Fairmont Royal Pavilion in Barbados which I visited a few years ago and enjoyed. The rooms are not huge but the direct sea view makes up for it. It is on offer at £227 per night versus a headline rate of £384.
