Bits: Accor Summer sale, another ‘buy AA miles’ sale, Shangri-La deal for Asia visitors

Accor launches ‘up to 40% off’ Summer sale

Accor, the Novotel / Sofitel / Mercure / Ibis etc group, has launched a Summer sale with quoted discounts of up to 40%.

It covers the entire Summer, valid for stays until August 30th.  Whilst all sale rates must be pre-paid, you can book until August 28th so you could wait until late if you were sure rooms would still be available.

Rooms also come with up to 600 bonus Le Club Accorhotels points, depending on brand, which are worth 2 Eurocents each when redeemed for Accor stays.  The sale covers 1,500 hotels across the UK, France, Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, Ireland and Luxembourg.

Another American Airlines ‘buy miles’ offer

American Airlines has launched another ‘buy miles’ promotion.  This one is at the better end of recent offers.

Because of the odd way the bonus is allocated, the cheapest deal is actually buying 76,000 miles, with a 27,500 miles bonus, for $2,079 includes the tax and processing fee.  That is exactly 2 cents per mile.

The deal is confusing as you receive both a miles bonus and a 15% discount on the standard price.

Double points with Shangri-La Golden Circle

Shangri-La Golden Circle is celebrating its fifth birthday with a number of offers.

One of them is very attractive – stay at five different hotels and collect 5,000 bonus points.  That would get you $500 of food and drink vouchers.  

Staying at five different Shangri-La hotels is virtually impossible if you are only travelling around Europe.  If you have a trip to Asia planned before the end of September, though, this could work out very well.  Pick the right properties and you might not spend much more than $500.  You can redeem the vouchers back in the UK for meals at the Shangri-La hotel in The Shard in London.

Another offer is for double points on all stays which may have wider appeal.  You can find out more on the Shangri-La website here – note that registration is required.
