Still got £10 Amazon cashback from Amex to spend? It’s Amazon Prime Day

A few weeks ago, many of us received an email from American Express offering £10 cashback if £35 was spent on a specified Amex card at amazon.co.uk before the end of July.

If you got this offer, it is worth taking a look at Amazon today.  They are running a range of one-day specials exclusively for Amazon Prime members.  However …. nothing stops you signing up for a FREE 30-day free trial of Amazon Prime and then cancelling tomorrow.Amazon is actually encouraging this, knowing that a good percentage of people will decide to keep it.

Here is a list of some of the deals which are available:

Bose QuietComfort 20 noise cancelling headphones for Android, Windows and Blackberry phones, £129.95 (50% off)

Fire TV Stick, £19 (46% off)

Kindle, £39.99 (£20 off)

Lenovo FLEX 10 10.1-inch multimode touchscreen notebook, £129.99 (54% off)

Xbox One 1TB with Half: The Master Chief collection and extra wireless controller, £329 (18% off)

PS4 1TB, PlayStation TV and Destiny, £329 (14% off)

You can also buy an Amazon gift card (a plastic one, delivered in a box) for £50 and receive a £10 promotional code in addition.  This code must be used by the end of August to buy any items sold by Amazon itself – not third party sellers.

There will also be other special deals throughout the day.  Keep an eye on the Amazon home page for details.  Even if you don’t have a £10 cashback credit from American Express to use, there are still some good deals available.

    “Sorry, this promotion has ended.”

I had my card registered on the Amex Deal and have put in £50 worth of spend but no email from Amex that usually signifies I have triggered the deal. Has anyone else had the usually instantaneous email come through?

    • Rob says:

They did not send out emails for this deal. They were also slow (well, slower than usual) in crediting the £10. However, I can confirm that I did get it successfully on my Starwood Amex without any chasing.

How long did it take? Forgot to do it in June so bought my £35 gift card today

Picked up the headphones (seems like a pretty good deal). I’d previously used the free trial so signed up to prime, ordered the headphones then changed my subscription to instant video only (5.99 a month rather than £79 fee). So far, it looks like they’ve taken the £79, refunded £72 (I assume the difference is the 1 day delivery fee if it’s not free) and charged £5.99 for prime instant video. Hopefully I can cancel this after a month and it’s only around £13 for half price bose headphones. Not bad!
