Bits: £50 off £500 at Apple with Amex, 10% off Emirates flights, paid mystery shopper stays

News in brief:

£50 Apple cashback deal with Amex

American Express is repeating an Apple promotion which originally ran last year, offering £50 statement credit on a purchase of £500 or more.

I was originally sceptical about this because the key Apple lines are all due for replacement in September and this offer closes on September 10th.

As reader Joel reminded me, though, you could buy £500 of Apple gift vouchers.  Keep those on one side and you’ll be well placed to order a new iPhone or iPad when the 2016 ranges launch next month.

You can register for the offer here.  It is restricted to 5,000 people but it had not reached that limit at 3am today when I tested it.

10% off Emirates flights for O2 Priority members

If you have an O2 mobile contract, you can get 10% off an Emirates flight, departing from any of their UK airports, if you book before 31st August.

(If you are not an O2 customer, you could save a few pounds by getting a SIM and registering it – or ask a friend to trigger the code for you.)

The 10% discount applies to both business and economy tickets.  However, it does NOT apply to the taxes element of the fare so, in economy, the discount will be noticeably lower than 10%.

The special Emirates booking page is here – note that you MUST use the desktop site.  You will need to trigger a promotional code from the O2 Priority site here.  Thanks to everyone who sent this over.

Get paid on your hotel stays with Trivago’s mystery shopper programme

I recently wrote about the recruitment programme for 25 mystery shoppers by Small Luxury Hotels of the World.

Reader Colin pointed me in the direction of a smaller scale scheme open to anyone (he has done it himself) run by hotel booking site Trivago.

Register with them via this website and you will receive a decent sized cash payment (essentially, a rebate on the price you paid for the room) once you have booked and stayed at a hotel in certain focus cities.

You will need to complete a Q&A on the hotel – Colin said the one he did took about 30 minutes and he was paid £50.  This was for an Edinburgh hotel.

More details can be found here.

T+Cs for the Apple/Amex say you need to have received a targeted email from them – does anyone have a clue how likely it is to work if you haven’t had the email? It let me register my card, at least.

  • Danksy says:

Thanks Frenske – I didn’t know about that!

Just a heads up on the apple vouchers “You are only eligible for this Offer if you receive an email invitation from American Express”.

I registered this morning as I might need to buy a MBP fairly soon!

Still alive at 8am… will purchase Vouchers for new iPhone in late September 🙂

  • Leo says:

Allowed me to register my Virgin Amex at 8.25am. Buying a new ipad next month whatever so I can but hope it works.

  • dynamo says:

OT: Amazon now, may have always but I didn’t notice, have a top up your balance option when you view your gift card balance. This saves buying a giftcard to send to yourself and then redeem the code. You simply enter the amount to top up, charge it to your card and then it adds it within seconds. Useful for those with £v to spend on when we receive an Amex Amazon offer.

  • Mike says:

I never get special offers from Amex, either in the app or the web site, always says nothing is available. Amex just say I’m signed up for marketing so they can’t do any more.

  • Louise says:

I used this last year, bought two lots of £500 gift cards online and then purchased new iPhones when they came out. Will do the same this year with my two Amex cards

  • RIccati says:

Be careful about Apple promotion, it says “You are only eligible for this Offer if you receive an email invitation from American Express.”

If anyone did not have an email, but still registered, spent and received the bonus then please report.

    • Jason says:

I received the email fir a gold Amex and saved it to a SPG Amex.
If it shows as a saved offer I’m sure you’ll get the credit, Amex are very good at honouring those sorts of things.

      • rum says:

Interesting. I didn’t get the email, but registered my Gold Amex earlier today – nothing has shown up in the offers section of my online account…

Anyone else not got the email, but registered anyway and had it apepar in the offers section?

        • Rob says:

They only show up in ‘My Offers’ if you can register via the ‘Offers’ page. Other Amex deals do not show there.

          • fastbowler says:

I purchased a mac book using my Amex Gold card last night
I received the confirmation e-mail about the £50 credit from Amex within about 5 minutes so all looks good.I did not receive an e-mail invitation but registered yesterday after reading this article
.Many thanks to Head for Points for highlighting this very useful offer which was perfect for me
