Maximise your Avios, air miles and hotel points

Get 10,800 Avios with a Samsung soundbar from Tesco Direct

Links on Head for Points may support the site by paying a commission.  See here for all partner links.

In terms of the sheer quantity of Avios points that you can earn from one item, this is the most generous Tesco promotion for some time.

Until September 2nd, you will receive 4,500 Clubcard points when you buy a Samsung HW-J550 soundbar for your TV system.

The soundbar costs £299.  Take a look at Tesco Direct here.

If you order TODAY (Monday 31st) you will save £20 using code TDX-LKJ3 at check-out.  This code can also be used to save £20 off any other £100 purchase of “Vision, Computing, Sat Nav, Cameras and MP3 products” made today.

Including the base points, and excluding the £20 discount, the purchase would earn you 4,799 Clubcard points.  That would convert into 11,517 Avios points or 11,998 Virgin Flying Club miles.

It is occasionally possible to resell Tesco purchases on eBay at a marginal loss which means that you are effectively purchasing the Avios cheaply.  I do not think this is possible here – this is a big item with heavy delivery costs and you will be taking the risk of it getting damaged in transit.

If you are looking for a soundbar for personal use, however, this is worth a look.  A quick Google search shows that other online retailers are selling it for less – although the £20 code removed a lot of the gap – so you will be paying for those Avios in some way.

I checked this one out for resale a week or so ago when the offer started, at that points nobody had ever sold one so best to keep to purchasing this is you wanted one for yourself as you could be left with an expensive item that you cannot sell.

    • chris says:

dont know how your looking on ebay but lots of people have sold these even refurbished ones (291496207865 just one of many last sold on 15th aug)

tho i agree the postage would kill it (well not so much if you count it in the item cost since royal mail special delivery weight brackets now go quite high), but theres gumtree local / facebook groups local / cex for the buy to seller, and if your lucky enough to find someone in your area that wants it, the profit would likely be better than ebay not due to postage but due to FEES (will not via cex but the first two)

  • Tom says:

Too high value for me to mess about reselling.

  • exEUjunkie says:

Just tried to order the sound bar. No mention of the extra clubcard points on the product screen or the checkout page, and the eVoucher fir £20 off today (Monday) is also invalid on our order. Have a Tesco pulled these promotions? Or is it because Tesco have run out of stock (already!) that their own website appears to be trying to sell us the product from CloverBox, and therefore as it’s not selling from Tesco, no points or discount?

    • chris says:

yes it would be tescos are out of stock and selling now via cloverbox

they promos only apply to them selfs

  • Joe says:

I miss the good old days. Remember the pay as you go phone deal?
