Don’t forget the accor bonus points worth £140 when 3 stays of 2+ days booked by 20th September.

  • Kevin says:

Thanks for the summary update, which is very useful.

  • ee says:

O/T – just called Amex to downgramde my BAPP card to the Blue card, and they said this is not something they can easily do over the phone and I should achieve the same by re-applying for the Blue card online and quoting my existing BAPP number.

Has anyone had the same experience? Maybe call up and try again?

    • Andrew says:

That’s what I did and it was all processed in a couple of days. Just apply online, quote your existing BAPP number in the application and it all seems to happen behind the scenes. My remaining annual fee was reimbursed pro-rata automatically and my 2-4-1 voucher remains on my BAEC account. All in all a great experience.

  • ee says:

Ok sounds good. Only have a few months left but might as well get some of the fee back now I have the 2 for 1 safely in my BA account!

  • anon says:

Is anyone else getting an annoying ‘Earn 20k Avios points’ popup window on every page?

Very difficult to close on a mobile device. Also funny having ‘avios’ shown with a red underline from word showing a spelling mistake, looks cheap..

    • Richard says:

If you mean the “before you leave” pop-up, I was getting it earlier. If you don’t mind candid feedback, Rob, it really isn’t a good look – pop-ups on exit from a page are a hallmark of scam sites, not reputable blogs like this one.

      • Rob says:

It is an experiment I started today – I have since tweaked it and from 5pm you won’t see it unless you come to HFP from a search engine. Even then, you will only ever see it once.

    • Rob says:

      It is an experiment.

However … I have now restricted to ONLY people who visit HFP from Google.

  • John says:

O/T. But I have around three months left on my Black Virgin card and I need to put quite a bit of spend on it to get to the £10k to get the upgrade vouchers. At the moment, I may need to fly Upper Class to LA in around 9 months time. If I were to book a fully flexible ticket on my Virgin card, but then cancel the flight after I had closed my account, would I still be able to get the money back or would Virgin insist that the money go back onto the same card?

Any help would be most helpful.

    • Blenz101 says:

Virgin Atlantic may well insist on refunding to the same card but MBNA will have a method of refunding credit that is returned to closed accounts. Usually via the DD if you have one in place to pay your monthly bills or a cheque in the post if you don’t.

You will of course need to clear your balance to close the account completely which will mean paying off the full cost of flex flight and then awaiting your refund.

There is also the strong possibility that the refund will generate a negative balance of flying club points on your credit card which will be clawed back from your flying club account. The voucher may also be at risk although less likely they will be able to do anything if you have already spent it.

  • mark2 says:

Still some time off, but the Tesco ClubCard quarter ends on 20th October.

  • cheekiechappie says:

Avios redemptions released @ 1am tonight get you a return flight on Saturday 3 September 2016, which is what I need x4.
