Registration now open for Starwood’s ‘Stay For More’ promotion

You can now register for the latest Starwood Preferred Guest, the Westin / Sheraton / Le Meridien / Aloft etc chain, promotion.

I initially ran through this a couple of weeks ago.  Called ‘Stay For More’, it will run from October 1st to December 20th.

It is not hugely exciting.  You will earn double Starpoints on stays of 2+ nights and an additional 500 points on stays of 4+ nights.

There is little to differentiate this from the Hilton and Marriott promotions.  You should obviously sign up if there is a chance you may have some Starwood stays during this period but it is unlikely to persuade anyone to move over an existing booking.

Qatar Airways to begin services to Sydney

Whilst Qatar Airways flies to Melbourne and Perth, the lack of a direct service to Sydney has always been an obvious gap.

The good news is that the airline agreed a deal with the Australian Government recently which will see services starting in the medium term.  This will offer another Avios redemption option to Sydney as well as, hopefully, cheap business class fares in the regular Qatar Airways sales.

Finally, Hotels.com emailed me about a new competition they are running in conjunction with the film Hotel Transylvania 2.

The prize is OK but not life-changing – economy flights for four people to LA together with a four star hotel for three nights.  However, the interesting bit is that you get a tour of the Sony Pictures Animation studios included.

    If 4 economy seats to LA with a hotel are OK but not life changing, what would you call a competition with 3 economy seats to LA?

    I joked about it on a different news item but is it possible to travel Qatar business class with small children? With a 30 month old and a 10 month old, am I going to find it too difficult to control them, given the layout prevents me reaching across to restrain the older one?
    A problem I don’t have in Club World.

      I agree it would be difficult on the 787 / A380 / A350 as even in the middle you are fscing away from your neighbour. 777 would be fine.

    Great news (for me!) about QR starting to SYD, though it was already available in their aggressive sales as codeshares on QF or CX and the extra change at HKG is particularly useful for bonus TPs!

    “Qatar Airways to begin services to Sydney” is something the Daily Mail might use for a headline.

    The facts at the moment are that the Australian government has agreed for QR to fly 21 extra flights from DOH to Australia each week.

    The only person to indicate that these might go to Sydney so far is an Australian minister. QR has previously stated that they won’t fly to SYD until the curfew is removed.

    If we’re talking about rumours, then the rumour is that the DOH-SYD service will continue to WLG.

    Raffles – the SPG promotion’s extra 500 points kicks in for stays of 3 or more nights, not 4 or more as you state above.
