Hyatt appears to be offering a very generous TOP TIER status match

It’s not clear whether this is a mistake or a social media marketing strategy.  However, a couple of days ago, Hyatt Gold Passport posted on their Twitter feed that they were willing to match some top tier hotel status card to their own top tier status, Diamond.

Your Diamond status would last until February 2017.  Keeping it beyond that point will require 50 nights or 25 stays in 2016 which is very difficult indeed if you live in Europe.

It looks as if you will receive all of the standard Diamond benefits:

Park Hyatt Hamburg

guaranteed lounge access

upgrade to best non-suite room

free full breakfast

free premium internet

guaranteed 4pm check-out

a food or beverage amenity on each stays

a guarantee that if you book a points stay for a friend they will get all the benefits too

and, most impressively, four guaranteed suite upgrades which you can lock in at the time of booking, each of which is valid for a stay of up to seven days.  You should actually receive EIGHT suite upgrades – four will expire on 28th February 2016 and you will receive a new batch of four after that.

…. which makes this an exceptional offer.

You won’t find these instructions officially written anywhere.  However, from what has been pieced together by US points writers, it appears that you need to email goldpassport@hyatt.com with a screenshot of your top tier status with Hilton, IHG, Marriott or SPG.

Your screenshot must show a recent paid stay as well as showing your status level.  You also need to include your Gold Passport number, of course.

Hyatt may not honour your request.  Demand for this is probably far higher than they expected.  There is also some backlash from existing Diamond members who see their benefits being undermined for the next 15 months.

For the sake of five minutes to put together an email and a screenshot, however, I would do it.  There are not a lot of Hyatt properties in Europe but the ones they have are excellent.  A couple of days in Nice or Cannes at their seafront hotels with a guaranteed suite upgrade and late check-out would not be the worst way to spend a weekend.  Park Hyatt is probably the best upmarket hotel brand owned by a major chain and many of the Grand Hyatt and Hyatt Regency hotels are also very well regarded.

If you have a mid-tier card (Hilton Gold, IHG Platinum) then there are some reports of getting matches to Hyatt Platinum.  This only requires five stays, however, and the benefits are not substantial – it is worth doing if you have a Hyatt stay planned but not necessarily worth the trouble otherwise.  You won’t be moving stays over to Hyatt just because you are now Platinum.

Okay this is OT for the first post but trying to contact Barclaycard on the phone as their online message facility not working. After going through the entering card number and pressing 1 for this and 2 for that etc etc I suddenly get the recorded message – “I’m afraid something’s came up and we had to leave for a little while, we should be back soon though”- damn that is annoying, did someone really think customers would like to hear a message worded like that?? Would never happen with Amex. Anyway, rant over!! 🙂

    • Liz says:

Maybe it was a fire alarm!

    • Wally says:

Incidentally, I’ve found that the Barclaycard online message system never works if you select the ‘Close account’ reason! Just select ‘Other’ and it will be fine.

  • Brian says:

Yeah I’ll give this Hyatt match a go, I have Diamond with Hilton so hopefully get approved.

On the subject of status match, are there other chains that possibly do matches with Hilton? I don’;t think IHG match any longer?

    Thanks

their website seems to be down at the moment, maybe the flurry of HFP readers has caused it to crash! not sure if im a member of hyatt so ill try to join when its back up and running and hopefully they can match my Accor Platinum status (which i was able to get with very little outlay thanks to this site)

  • tje says:

Thanks Rob – this could be useful as I’m off to Vegas next year, and should then match across to MLife. Currently platinum with IHG, but should hopefully (provided Barclaycard sort themselves out) be Spire by the end of next month.

  • CV3V says:

According to Hyatt Twitter feed they are only offering status match to Marriott, IHG, SPG and Hilton. So Accor also not included, no harm trying though.

HFP readers aren’t killing the website, its the middle of the night in the US and typical weekend updates to website. I guess it will be back online in a few hours time.

  • Sebastian says:

Ah! I will be Hilton Diamond in and around mid-jan, somehow I get the feeling that this will not still be around at the time!

  • Jason says:

What would the match for spire elite?
    Platinum or Diamond?

    • Solo says:

Just message them and stated they would offer Platinum bit miffed about that. Going to try push them to offer Diamond seeing as its Top Tier at IHG.

  • Gabbai says:

I just got this PM from Hyatt ” We are only matching SPE Platinum to Diamond status at this time.” I assume SPE should read SPG. I have IHG Aspire and they will not match that to Diamond. I guess they are getting flooded out with requests and someone has woken up at Hyatt! Question is whether it is worth while taking their offer of Platinum status now or hanging in hoping they will improve the offer. Any ideas?
