‘Secret’ IHG weekend sale – save 50% on regular rates this Winter

Links on Head for Points may support the site by paying a commission.  See here for all partner links.

IHG, owner of Crowne Plaza, Holiday Inn, HI Express, Indigo, InterContinental and other brands, has launched a ‘partners’ 50% off sale for hotels in the UK and Europe.

You need to have a Mastercard to take part in this promotion.

At the moment, I cannot find the official Mastercard landing page for 2015.  Here is the version from 2014 and the link on that page works OK for booking.  Mastercard is still an IHG ‘discount partner’ as you can see here in 2015 for a promotion that is ongoing.  Here is a version of the 2015 offer aimed at RICS members.

You should be able to use these rates by writing Mastercard on the paper voucher (more on that below).

Here are the rules:

You must book by 21st December

You must stay between 15th December and 29th February

You must stay for at last two nights

You must book at least five nights in advance

Most hotels will only allow this rate on weekends but the rules say that some allow weekday stays

You must print off the standard IHG partner voucher as found on the RICS version of the offer, but write in Mastercard and present it at check-in

Taking the Crowne Plaza London Kensington as an example, as I am there on Friday for an event, the rate under this promotion for 15-17 January is £87 per night (or £117 for a room with club lounge access).  The cheapest rate on the standard IHG booking page is £126 per night or £169 for a club room – the sale price is almost 33% cheaper than the already discounted ‘Advance Purchase’ rate.

Until I find the 2015 booking site, you can book via this 2014 Mastercard page – the rates do not show on the standard IHG website.  Note that, because these rates are discounted so highly, you should assume that you will NOT earn IHG Rewards Club points and that stays will NOT count towards the current Accelerate promotion.  Given the size of the saving, I can live with that.

If you stayed at a SPG/Westin in US/CAN your card data may be compromised

  • Andy says:

Do you need to pay with a MasterCard, or can I use my IHG Visa?

  • Steve says:

I must be doing something wrong but when I click the link through to the search a booking page and put the same dates in as your example, it still shows £126, not £87. There is no difference from searching from the link or the standard route. Is anyone else getting the same problem?

    • CV3V says:

Min 2 night stay. Are your dates within the promo period? Works ok for me.

      • Steve says:

Exactly the same 15th-17th January. 2 night stay. Doing it on the iPhone if that is any different. Can’t get to do it on pc at the moment, so can’t check.

        • CV3V says:

just tested those dates and works fine. Those hotels which are available in the promo highlighted in yellow. CP Kensington at 87 per night.

          • Steve says:

Yeh there are no hotels in yellow when I do it. I’ll check on PC when home, may be a safari thing. Yours says £87 mine says £126, assuming we are doing exactly the same, clicking the link going to the search screen entering London, Jan 15, Jan 17, best available, find hotels. Oh well you can’t win em all.

          • Steve says:

Okay so update, doesn’t work on iPhone6s or colleagues 6s plus, but works fine on my iPad.

    • Danny says:

Same here… The partner rate is not shown

  • Claus says:

Only a few hotels show the Rate – could be sold our or not participating.

  • Waribai says:

Slightly OT. Regarding the Emirates status match. I have just been sent an email with a form asking me to indicate my past/future travel plans over the past/future 12 months.
How will they check the veracity of my information?

    • Rob says:

They won’t! They may ask for a BA statement showing past travel but obviously not future stuff.

    • CV3V says:

They don’t, and they didn’t ask me for a statement. But they will assess your status match on whether the future flights you intend to do would be enough to earn Gold/Plat status. So, you need to be planning enough flights for the year ahead…

    • Waribai says:

Thanks! Looking at it closely, it seems that furutre flights just need to be intentions rather than actual bookings!

      • Fenny says:

I’m intending to fly to Australia/NZ several times in the next 12 months for research and to meet relatives. Unfortunately, neither my bank balance nor my boss will allow it!

  • Imran says:

Good availability in early January in London – e.g. Kensington Forum HI £67.57 a night and CP Kensington is £82; HI Wembley £45

  • GraemeC says:

Has the link to the 2014 booking page been killed, getting page not found ….

    • Rob says:

Interesting. Doesn’t matter, you can use the 2015 RICS link. No-one from IHG has been on the phone to shout at me for running this, nor have they rescinded my invite for the IHG event I am on tomorrow!

  • Sam says:

    Apologies for the slight bump..

Anybody know if Ambassador benefits will be honoured with this rate?

50% Off Winter Rate through the RICS landing page is bringing up some very good prices for IC Vienna in January.
