Office party tonight? Use our taxi app sign-up codes for a free or cheap ride home

Links on Head for Points may support the site by paying a commission.  See here for all partner links.

If you are heading out tonight for a Christmas party, you may want to give one of the app based cab services a go.    It will make your chances of getting home much quicker and much easier.  These codes will also make it cheaper.

(I remember, one year, being forced to walk home from Berkeley Square to Wapping at around 2am from a Christmas party due to the lack of available cabs.  This year, when we left my wifes party last Friday, I ordered an Uber from the cloakroom and it was waiting for me outside by the time I got to the door.)

These are not all London-focussed.  Uber is now in many UK towns and cities and Gett is starting to spread into the major city centres.

Uber – £15 off your first ride with code headforpoints – download here

Hailo – no known code, weirdly the company has abandoned their Twitter account with no new tweets since August! – download here

Gett (ex GetTaxi) – £10 off your first ride with code GTSZFWS – download here

Addison Lee – £10 off your next ride with code XMAS10 (expires 31 December) – download app here

Kabbee (pre booked minicabs) – no discount codes are available at the moment.  You may still want to give Kabbee a try, however, as it lets you access the combined fleets of 70 different London minicab companies for pre-booked rides – download here

Hi Raffles. OT, but could you do a big piece on Amex Platinum Medical cover. As I found today, it is administered by Axa, who are awful, awful people to deal with. The insurance claims to be comprehensive, but I had to risk 260 euros on a doctor to come see my baby in a hotel before they would make a decision as to whether a crying coughing snotty baby who couldn’t sleep due to the phlegm was covered. It has been very annoying and has really hurt my impression of Amex, who have been up to now fabulous in all respects.

P.S after the doctor diagnosed her with bronchitis and a serious obstructive throat infection and prescribed her lots of drugs, costing 59 Euros, they accepted the claim after and only after I read their policy document to them! It is not what you need when abroad with a sick baby.

I remember walking from London Bridge to East Dulwich one December night because I didn’t have change for the bus… Fortunately no problem these days with Oyster/contactless payment. We’ve all been there!

Rob, does the £15 credit using the HFP code have an expiry on it?
