Bits: No1 Traveller lounge deal, more sales and Luxury Travel Diary auctions

News in brief:

No1 Traveller deal on Groupon

Airport lounge group No1 Traveller, whose facilities I have reviewed positively many times on HfP, has an offer on Groupon for the next few days.

For £22.50, you can buy a pass for one of their Heathrow or Gatwick locations.  For £25, which is the best deal, you get a glass of champagne included.  The Groupon link is here.

To be honest, though, for most people these offers can be beaten.  The exceptionally generous deal they have with Avios (ie avios.com, not British Airways Executive Club) is still running.

As I outlined in this article, you can get in to any of their lounges for just £20 and receive 750 Avios.  You don’t get a glass of champagne included but I think most HfP readers would accept the trade off.

The photo below is of Gatwick South, which will be replaced in a few weeks with a substantially bigger and substantially more impressive facility – I am hoping to review it when it opens.

The sales are now on

I doubt anyone is going to top the Avis £2 car rentals as the Christmas sale bargain of the year, but my inbox is full of alternative options.

I am not necessarily recommending any of the following, except for the fact that the companies involved bothered to get in touch to tell me what they were doing:

Lastminute.com – up to 50% off their ‘Top Secret’ hotels (ends 18th January)

Singapore Airlines – business class deals to 8th January, economy and premium economy deals to 31st January

Hotels.com – ‘up to’ 50% off, book by 25th January for stays until 31st March

LateRooms.com – save up to 40% (Macdonald Hotels seems particularly heavily discounted) (ends 20th January)

I have also written in details before about the current British Airways sale, the current Hilton sale and the current IHG (Holiday Inn, Crowne Plaza etc) sale, which are the most popular amongst Head for Points readers.

More Luxury Travel Diary auctions closing

Finally, the Luxury Travel Diary site has another wave of its luxury auctions closing this week.  These are often worth a look as there are often deals to be had.

Packages closing soon include 5 nights for eight people in Bali (something you won’t be redeeming using hotel loyalty points in a hurry), 7 nights for ten people in a villa in Mallorca and – more in the HFP line – two nights at the Grand Hyatt in Singapore.

As usual, it is worth having a poke around to see if anything takes your fancy.

OT: Dropping someone off at LHR T5 on Sat Jan 2nd.
Due to catch a train from King’s Cross later on in the day. (Exact time not yet confirmed.)
Recommendations for where to find somewhere to sit and do some work?
Ideally warm and with better internet than a Starbucks.
(The work is fairly internet intensive.)

I am guessing the Regus in T5 Arrivals is closed at weekends?

If you’ve got 4G and can work from that, I imagine the T5 Sofitel public areas are fine.

My bad, I was wondering if there was anywhere within a taxi ride of King’s Cross that people would recommend?

I’ve had too many bad experiences getting back from LHR at that time of year, so I’d rather get that journey over first…

I don’t know if you’ve got any Virgin Money products but the lounge in Haymarket is pretty decent for working in.

If you are getting to the tube it’s pretty convenient as you can just get of at Picaddilly and then get back on to get to Kings Cross.

Depending on how long you’ve got is it worth zooming over to one of the Plaza Premium lounges? Say the Arrivals one in T2 . Buy in or PP etc. I saw an offer for £10 entry outside their door last week.

Any IHG hotel lobby, if you are signed up to their program at any level. Indigo at Paddington looks nice. Heathrow Express would connect. From there it’s a short taxi or Tube to Kings Cross.

Pain Quotidien at St Pancras is bigger than Starbucks and might do if you get stuck. I particularly prefer the coffee there. If they’re not busy it might work well. I find plugging into the coffee keeps the staff happy especially if my bill is around £10-£12 for what I order.

      • Rob says:

The public space in PP Arrivals is tiny. That said, the doorway is open so you can see how busy it is before you go on. They have their own wi-fi network and you presumably could use the terminal signal as well.

IC Park Lane lobby lounge would be convenient assuming you can use their wi-fi anywhere (can you?). Directly above Hyde Park Corner tube which is on the line from Heathrow to Kings Cross.

Hire a car from Avis for £2 for the One Way journey to Kings Cross and work in that! 🙂

    • Metatone says:

      Thanks for all the suggestions!

I’m a big fan of the Parcel Yard above Kings Cross station. Free wifi and usually plenty of space to stretch out!

St Pancras Renaisance hotel, at St P station. Beautiful architecture. Sit in reception, maybe buy a drink

Stupid beginner question – do you only get CC points on gift cards bought in store? I need to buy a digital iTunes code as a late present for someone…

    • Liz says:

as long a you buy £50 you will get the 150 pts – I bought some Ernest Jones digital vouchers but the points haven’t posted yet.

Does anyone know if AerLingus run sales at all?

  • AndyHo says:

re: paid lounge access: Gourmet Society and Dragon Pass are running a promo at the moment, £15 to the lounges listed on the website. It’s probably not guaranteed access though, unlike if you buy direct from No.1, but they will refund your money if you can’t get in. https://gourmetsociety.dragonpassuk.com

  • Andrew H says:

Does anyone know if there are ways of getting Regus membership for free? I have read Raffles’ articles on this topic, but the free ways no longer work. The ‘partnership’ pages on the Regus site either say ‘this offer is no longer valid’, or, if you enter a code, ‘Error: Membership details not found.’
