News in brief:

Sofitel Gatwick from £69 via lastminute.com

On Tuesday I wrote about how the Sofitel Heathrow Terminal 5, attached to the terminal, is available as a lastminute.com Top Secret Hotel for under £100.

A reader got in touch to say that the Sofitel at Gatwick, attached to the North Terminal, is also available via this offer.

You need to visit the Top Secrets Hotels page at lastminute.com and search ‘gatwick’ for “Luxury Hotel at Gatwick Airport – North Terminal.  Walking distance and directly linked to Gatwick Airports North Terminal by a covered walkway.”  The price should be £89 or so.

When you’ve found it, use this code – 6167144261687469 – which was posted at Flyertalk and found on an obscure coupon site – to take a further £20 off.  This takes you down to £69.

The Heathrow property is reportedly very good at respecting your Le Club AccorHotels status even though you have booked through a third party.  I’m not sure if the same applies at Gatwick.

16 Avios per £1 via Gate 365 at Selfridges

Gate 365, the British Airways online shopping portal, is currently offering 16 Avios per £1 spent at Selfridges until 10th January.

This is interesting because selfridges.com sells a wide range of high end items, especially electricals, which you might have been thinking of buying elsewhere.

I was very annoyed to see that a £600 Ruark music system which I recenty bought in John Lewis (admittedly via Click & Collect to earn some Avios) is in there, for example.  That would have been 10,000 easy Avios.

Note that Apple products are excluded from earning Avios.

There are also Gate 365 promotions running with Argos, Banana Republic, Currys, Debenhams, Gap, Harrods, John Lewis, Joules, Laura Ashley, links, lookfantastic, The White Company and Uniqlo.

Aren’t Selfridges rather restrictive about items which earn 16 avoid per £? I seem to remember many. laptops were a non starter…

  • harry says:

We did similar many moons ago & it’s meant to be once per person. But I reckon different direct debit bank + different home address + different email address should work for a repeat.

    • whiskerxx says:

and you can earn £20.16 to tell a “friend” when they earn £10

  • Simon says:

Related question…… If I sign up to the Hilton Visa, and get the free weekend night voucher after the £750 spend. Can I easily use it at the Hilton Gatwick on a Friday night. And will I be able to book a family room with it. Doesn’t really help if I will only get a basic room that cant take my 2 kids in it….. anyone know how strict the vouchers are?

    • Tilly71 says:

Either completing hilton stays or taking out their credit card, is this the only way of getting silver status on HH?

      • Rob says:

Yes, I think so. There were some offers for certain companies which gave instant Silver if you pretended to work for them but they seem to be dead.

    • Rob says:

You only get whatever basic rooms are shown for points redemptions at the standard pricing level – that is unlikely to take your kids. The hotel may agree an upgrade in advance for a few £ if you email them – a lot of hotels are flexible on that.

    • Andrew (@andrewseftel) says:

If you can see a reward available at the standard redemption price (an exact thousand number) for that room then you can book it with the voucher.

    • nobbynobchops says:

If you’re referring to the recent Amex deal, this is yet another deal that didn’t redeem despite spending over twice the threshold in total.

Amex deals very hit and miss

      • TimS says:

Are you sure you redeemed at a European hotel that wasn’t excluded. If so, you should contact Amex CS & they will almost certainly retrospectively apply the credit for you.

  • Pawel says:

I bought Iphone 6s and got avios points…so not all apple product excluded

  • Lewis says:

Selfridges have offered 16 points per pound since the black Friday sales, so its not new. Spent several hundred pounds on the run up to Christmas at this rate, all tracked and credited.

    • Leo says:

Same here. Did all my xmas gift shopping and stuff for myself in the sale at Selfridges. Points all tracked.

      • Dan says:

Same here! Between this and a similar offer at the White Company, who offered 24 Avios per£ for a while, I earnt around 17k Avios on Xmas gifts.

  • John says:

Mate, please don’t turn this site into hotukdeals or something.

    • BLT says:

Agree wholeheartedly, there are lots of other websites out there for everyday bargains

    • Lady London says:

as someone once described it “where good deals go to die” 🙂
