Qatar Airways has kicked off another amazing round of business class deals under the heading of ‘Qatar Travel Festival’.

This is a genuinely impressive package:

Very, very cheap business class fares from various European departure points

You can book for travel until 15th December 2016

Qatar Travel Festival

… all of which earn Avios and British Airways tier points

… or, if you credit to Qatar Airways, will earn triple QMiles

… and you can win a prize as well in a free draw for all bookers

You have five days left to book – these deals end on 17th January.

Full details can be found here.

The best fares will not be found from the UK

Here are a few of the more jaw dropping prices.  These deals are all for business class travel via Doha.

Oslo to Cape Town – NOK 11,895 (£914)

Oslo to Bangkok – NOK 10,045 (£772)

Oslo to Maldives – NOK 11,795 (£907)

Oslo to Melbourne / Sydney – NOK 18,395 (£1,414)

Oslo to Singapore – NOK 10,895 (£837)

Copenhagen to Bali – DKK 13,795 (£1,380)

Copenhagen to Bangkok – DKK 8,945 (£895)

Copenhagen to Dubai – DKK 8,045 (£804)

Copenhagen to Hong Kong – DKK 10,695 (£1,070)

Copenhagen to Sydney – DKK 15,495 (£1,550)

Amsterdam to Bangkok – €1,160 (£866)

Amsterdam to Cape Town – €1,380 (£1,030)

Amsterdam to Dubai – €1,110 (£828)

Amsterdam to Phuket – €1,220 (£910)

Amsterdam to Zanzibar – €1,165 (£870)

These routes would all – apart from Dubai – earn 560 tier points return (140 + 140 + 140 + 140) due to the change of plane in Doha.

As ever with Qatar, you should keep an eye on the aircraft.  The most modern seats are on the Boeing 787, Airbus A350 and Airbus A380 fleet.  The A330 and Boeing 777 aircraft are now all fully flat, however.  A couple may even find the older style seating on these aircraft better as there are pairs of seat together.  The newer planes have a herringbone layout where passengers faces away from each other.

My review of the 787 business class seat is here.  The 777 business seat review is here.  The food and drink is the same high quality whichever aircraft you use.

Only twice the cost of an economy ticket is a very keen price.

OSL-BKK in Nov booked yesterday. Forgot to check the Ts&Cs on the tripple miles promotion and just went ahead and booked on gotogate. Under £600 but as a QR platinum I’d have got quite a few extra miles which I think probably would have been worth the extra £180 or so to book direct 🙁

Never mind. It is tripple miles on the base miles not the whole lot.
Calculator says its a little over 25,000 OSL-BKK in bus for a plat, was thoroughly fuming with myself when I thought that could have been 75,000 but it would be less than that and I can’t figure out what the ‘base miles’ amount would be unless its the same as the 15,000 in bus for burgundy.

Anyone know how many miles I could have effectively bought for my £180 by booking on the QR site ?

Be Gentle – schoolboy error, pulled the trigger a little early in my eagerness 🙂

Just booked CPH-SYD via DOH for me and the missus on gotogate for £1,177 each in I/business. Have been following the blog for a while now and formulating my points plans but couldn’t resist this opportunity to stopover in CPH, where there are some great restaurants, and get to fly business on 777 and 787 for such a low price and earn 600 TPs. Now just trying decide whether or not to nail SCH with the TPs or request the BA grace period and get GCH with them – travel falls right across my TP collection year end.

Thanks to Raffles for posting up this promo, cheaper business class seats than when I went to JFK over new year after the last BA/Avios for cash sale, and I get to spend time in the QR Doha lounge which looks amazing!

    • Lady London says:

Well done @knifehandchop. What dates did you find this for, please

      • knifehandchop says:

Oct 4-12, had to fiddle a bit to find pricing as the tickets were disappearing throughout the day.

    • Kathy says:

There’s the odd ticket still there in early September for around £1100, OSL-SYD. Only one seat left each.

There’s a few more around CPH-SYD for just under £1200.

Both have 19+ hour connections in Doha, though.

      • knifehandchop says:

Ended up with 9hr wait in Doha, but given the lounge access and price of ticket I’m not too fussed. Shower, cigarette, spot of lunch and a movie.

        • Kathy says:

          You did very well, there.

          • Lady London says:

I grabbed one of these 2 months ago for £1500. Though I was doing quite well at the time! Am now kicking myself because I could now pay £400 less. ***s law my booking was also on first round of these with the nonrefundable nonchangeable condition on it. Otherwise I’d change right away. The 2nd round, about a month ago, apparently was also refundable. But who would have thought there would be this further improvement in prices?

I did get the perfect 3 hours or so in Doha, though, in each direction on the ticket I booked.

  • Paul says:

Is there an article on the pros and cons of crediting miles to Qatar? I have a flight to the Far East and now to oz on potentially triple miles with them so not sure it’s obvious to convert to BA? No idea really!

    • Polly says:

See my comment jan12th 8.11… Really depends if you prefer to go east then QR is better. But, if you do the USA and ROW plus RFS plus use a 241 in F every year, then BAEC is the better, that’s just from experience. Plus no family ac in QR which is a pain. The BAEC wins out that way too….really personal choice. We mix it up but keep all miles in BAEC. Every second trip we book QR J then BA F using our annual 241. Usually heading to SE Asia though.

      • Paul says:

How do the earning and burning and taxes compare between them?

        • Polly says:

Pricing for LHR at almost the same, earn rate now same almost as BA. Very diff to do Upgrade using q miles. All locals earn huge amounts of qmiles and bag all the J seats available. You have to call, nearly every day, as online you have to request it ! That’s just what we experienced for about 5 yrs. hate to say it but BAEC is one of the best to navigate and use actually. Certainly the most flexible. No probs getting our miles to BAEC, and got sliver from one trip return to HKT, plus our 4 short BA sectors remember, so well worth the QR run that time.

  • Ruth says:

I have managed to fine fantastic return flights via gotogate, but open jaw tickets (to Singapore, back from Hong Kong) are a lot more expensive. Is the sale only on return flights?

  • James says:

    • Ruth says:

Oh well, my husband is a nervous flyer and would never agree to 4 flights in business when we can fly direct anyway 🙁

      • JamesW says:

Just book it and sedate him. A-Team style !!

        • Ruth says:

Very tempting! Our first flight together was on our honeymoon, and I honestly thought that I had done something to upset him when we went very very quiet…. he says business class would be wasted on him as he would still hate every minute of it anyway. Maybe I will go business class and leave him in economy!

      • Lady London says:

And you married this man ? 🙂

  • great_circle says:

Slightly off topic: how long does it usually take for avios and tier points, earned on QR flights, to appear on a BAEC account?

    • sav says:

usually 24-48 hrs, longest I have waited is 72hrs, but that was on a CX operated flight with QR flight number as a codeshare.

      • great_circle says:

Hmm, after 10 days there has been no change in the number of avios and TP’s on my BAEC account. I understood (ba.com) it can take upt o 28 days but I was just curious what the normal period would be.

    • Polly says:

Very quickly after our last HKT flight in autumn. One was the next day, forget which leg tho….

    • great_circle says:

My account now shows an increase of 280 TP so it took 11 days this time.

  • Umberto says:

I booked a flight this morning from gotogate for 600£, so they are still available :). 7 night Oslo BKK!
