Maximise your Avios, air miles and hotel points

Exclusive HfP competition: Win 50,000 IHG Rewards Club points

Links on Head for Points may support the site by paying a commission.  See here for all partner links.

I’m delighted to launch another exclusive Head for Points competition today.  One lucky reader is going to walk away with 50,000 IHG Rewards Club points!

50,000 IHG Rewards Club points will get you:

ten PointBreaks nights if you save them for the next round of super-discounted redemptions

two or three free nights at a mid range property, such as a regional Holiday Inn

one free night at a top-end IHG property such as the luxurious InterContinental Amstel in Amsterdam, or one of the InterContinental hotels in Paris (above), New York, London etc

10,000 Avios points – or 10,000 miles in most other major airline schemes – if you don’t want a hotel stay

You can find out more about IHG Rewards Club at their website here.

The reason for IHG’s generosity is their European Winter Sale, which is running until 7th February.

You can save up to 30% on stays at 600 InterContinental, Holiday Inn, Holiday Inn Express, Crowne Plaza and Hotel Indigo hotels across Europe.

The sale rates are valid for sale until 29th February 2016.

Full details of the IHG Winter Sale can be found at this special website.

How to win 50,000 IHG Rewards Club points

All you need to do is complete the automated form at the bottom of this article.  That’s it.

You have a maximum of two entries per submission.  You gain one entry for filling in your email address and you can earn a second entry if you tweet about the competition.

The deadline for entries is midnight on Friday 22nd January.  The winner will be announced on Head for Points next week.

You can only enter if you are a UK resident – I apologise to Head for Points readers in other countries.  If you are UK-based but travelling this week, you will need to email a friend back home with a link to this page to enter for you.  You are limited to one submission per person and the points will only be deposited in an IHG Rewards Club account which matches the name of the winner.

Please read this before you enter:

Entrants must be aged 18 years or over.

The competition will launch at 5.45am on Monday 18th January and close at midnight UK time on Friday 22nd January.

Please ensure that you put a valid email address on the entry form.

The winner will be picked at random by the software which collates the entries.

The prize will be deposited into an IHG Rewards Club account.  The name of the winner must match the name on the account.

Entries are limited to one per person.

Your email details will not be used by Head for Points for any other purpose and will not be shared with IHG.

You must be a UK resident to enter. You must also be physically based within the UK in order to be able to enter – if you are travelling this week, you will need to ask a friend or relative in the UK to enter for you.

Under UK law I am obliged to make the name of the winner available upon request.

Good luck to everyone.

If you cannot see the entry widget below, please click here and you will be taken to a separate page where you can enter.

  • Joe says:

I’m not really happy about the Gleam app’s Twitter rights.. following new people on my behalf, updating my profile, see my password and post tweets. That’s almost like a hijacking the account.

This application will be able to:
    Read Tweets from your timeline.
See who you follow, and follow new people.
    Update your profile.
    Post Tweets for you.
    Will not be able to:
    Access your direct messages.
    See your Twitter password.

    • Joe says:

Oh, so it doesn’t see my password, but can do pretty much everything else..

      • Rob says:

        But, obviously, it won’t.

For clarity, there is no option for me (as a user) to tell the app to do these things. I think – although I am not certain – that the list of things above comes as a package from Twitter and that in order to post to your Twitter account it gets given the other privileges by default.

        • Bob Willis says:

          “But, obviously, it won’t.”

Yes, because no website in the history of the internet has ever been hacked, has it.

    • JOhn says:

Make a new twitter account that is only used for these sorts of things.

  • Nicola Green says:

Unable to enter as gleam wouldn’t accept my entry.

  • Peaceful Waters says:

I’d recommend a dummy Twitter account for this sort of thing.

Similar for Facebook and email. Focus potential spam on the unimportant accounts!

    • Lady London says:

Facebook canned my fake account when I accidentally mentioned when needing them to sort out a problem with it, that I kept it only for use with such items – and wouldn’t use it . They claimed I had to be a real person. I am a real person, I just choose not to put my personal stuff on Facebook. But they wouldn’t budge.

      Silly me I guess.

  • jw says:

    cant enter.

wont let me enter as it Says I already have a gleam account and to log in first, but when i try and login, it says i dont have an account!

    bugged mess.

  • Corrine says:

It said I already had a gleam acct, but it did register my entries when I linked twitter (which I rarely use)!

  • katherine says:

Cant enter says not available in your region?? Not sure what region that is as it says open to UK residents? Silly.

    • Rob says:

Not silly, because I would get 10,000 entries from China before lunch if it wasn’t restricted!

In general, although this is not the case with IHG, it is usually the London office and London marketing budget of a company which is funding our competitions and they want to focus their resources on UK residents.

      • Anon says:

Worked a treat for me (no twitter), appreciate having a comp on a Monday am ! 🙂

      • katherine says:

silly. as i am uk resident. so not sure why it wont accept it. not for region restrictions

    • Anon says:

Are you tryin from home or work?

Try a VPN. And set to UK

      • alan says:

Hi Alan sorry to pester you on another thread, we were talking the other day about the WA in Edinburgh, you mentioned free breakfast for gold in January (I’m Diamond) can’t see this deal anywhere online. Do I need to request this before the stay?

        Thanks

        Alan

      • katherine says:

I think that is the problem, travelling so it doesn’t care where my account is only my laptop

  • Andrew H says:

    Sorted!

  • Gavin says:

Managed to enter after logging into twitter. Luckily social media isn’t blocked at work
