Review: the Plaza Premium lounge in London Heathrow Terminal 2

This is my review of the Plaza Premium lounge in London Heathrow Terminal 2.

It is part of our series of reviews of airport lounges across the UK.  You see all of the reviews here.

Full details of all of the Plaza Premium lounges at Heathrow are here.

EDIT: A more recent review of the Plaza Premium lounge at Heathrow Terminal 2 can be found here.

Ever since United Club left Priority Pass, this has been the only lounge option for Priority Pass and Lounge Club members in Terminal 2.  I reviewed the lounge soon after it opened, and gave away some passes in a HfP competition, and I was very positive about it.

I’m pleased to say that very little has changed – in fact, as they now have real cutlery, things have got better.

The bar area is still very classy:

The alcohol situation has also been cleared up. It was confusing with different people getting different deals depending on how they got access.  Alcoholic drinks (served from the bar, not self service) are now all free except for premium spirits, prosecco and champagne which is charged.

Given it was mid-afternoon on the Friday before half term, it was surprisingly quiet.

The food offering remains excellent and will be a wake-up call for anyone who things the British Airways Galleries Club lounges are the peak of lounge cuisine!

My other issues with the lounge are the lack of natural light (which they have dealt with by taking using dark Asian-themed materials and architectural styles) and the weak magazine and newspaper selection (which could be easily fixed).  In general, though, it is an impressive facility.

My review of the other Plaza Premium lounge, in Terminal 4, is here.

If you don’t have access via Priority Pass or Lounge Club, you can buy access via the Plaza Premium website here.

If you don’t have a Priority Pass, you get a free one with an American Express Platinum card.  Alternatively you can buy one here.

Alternatively, if you apply for a free (in year on) American Express Gold card you will receive two free Lounge Club lounge passes which are also accepted here.

Looks good but with 4 *A lounges I doubt I will be visiting for the foreseeable future.

I wonder what proportion of HFPers have *G status?

    • Matt says:

Probably a fair few, given the easy requirements through Aegean a couple of years ago and then the status match to Turkish (which is the route I took). Really helps smooth the journey if, like me, you never pay for anything other than Y!

      • Rob says:

        Not me, clearly 🙂

If you’re with the family you’re more likely to end up here unless you are both Star Gold.

      • John says:

Actually I renewed my A3 Gold status and plan to continue doing so – it’s not difficult to do a yearly trip to Greece or Cyprus and one long-haul (but be careful of the booking class), and you get to upgrade the trip to Greece for just the cost of the additional APD – or nothing if you don’t depart from the UK!

  • AndyR says:

Thanks for the updated review, looking forward to visiting on Saturday.

I’ve used this lounge a couple of times for a shower in the evening before getting the overnight to SIN. No nonsense about paying extra or the showers being closed at 7 pm like the Aspire in T5, plenty of room and helpful staff. Recommended.

  • James says:

It also has very nice sleep rooms. Love this lounge, use it every time I go to T2 (although now * gold so we will see in future. :P)

  • Jordan D says:

Are there status match routes to Star Gold still available?

    • Alan says:

Sadly Turkish only gives you a few months now and you need to do some flights with them to retain it.

    • Guesswho2000 says:

Copa airlines and Avianca Brazil were offering matches late last year, managed to match QF Gold to *A gold with both!

  • Oyster says:

Any risk of being turned away with Priority Pass?

  • rams1981 says:

OT I’m flying to Toronto with BA in economy. I’m silver so can use the lounge. But flying with my brother and his 4 year old. I can normally bring one guest. Is that flexible enough for them both to come?

    • John says:

(We’re obviously talking about Galleries Club here, not the T2 lounges)

If you ask nicely, I would say you have a 20% chance of getting them both in. It depends on how crowded the lounge is. You may have more luck in T5B lounges – I think YYZ flights usually go from B)

    Thanks
