Maximise your Avios, air miles and hotel points

Get 50% off IHG hotels across UK and Europe for Summer weekends

Links on Head for Points may support the site by paying a commission.  See here for all partner links.

IHG Rewards Club, the Holiday Inn / Crowne Plaza / InterContinental etc chain, has launched a special Summer sale in conjunction with Avis.

On the face of it, it is a very strong offer.

You will receive a 50% discount on the Best Available Rate when you stay TWO or more weekend nights (Fri / Sat / Sun) before 7th September.

You can ONLY book this deal via this link here.

It is not available via the standard IHG booking site.

There is only one catch to consider.  In general, stays which are discounted by more than 30% from the Best Available Rate do NOT earn IHG Rewards Club points or stay credit.

This is especially relevant here because of the generous ‘Accelerate’ promotion currently being run by IHG.  ‘Accelerate’ is the most generous hotel promotion this Summer if your personal target was a soft one.

It might make more sense NOT to book this 50% discount rate and instead book at a standard rate instead.  You will pay a little more but you can be sure that your stay will earn points and, more importantly, will count towards your ‘Accelerate’ target.

The link to book your ‘50% off’ stay is here.  The deadline to book is 30th June.

Thanks, booked weekend dates and worked a treat! Is there a list of a Crowne Plaza hotels that offer free breakfast to Platinum Elite? I will be staying at CP Heathrow and they said yes but CP birmingham city centre said no unless I get upgraded to club room. I also made booking for a friend and added them as additional guest. IHG chat said there will be no benefits for the friend. Dies having two rooms on my account for same dates lessen my chance of upgrade to club room?

Rob if we transfer the 40k Virgin to 40k IHG and by 5k and use 45k plus $95, the Mrs does have ambassador on account, any way to get the discounted club access at Park Lane if we add me to booking and do at check in or does it have to be on the account booking made from?

    • Rob says:

Not guaranteed, but if you ask they may be OK with it. You may even find you could get full Ambassador benefits.

  • Alan Pinchard says:

(Meant to say Mrs DOESN’T have ambassador)

Will give it a go, Caroline normally looks after us pretty well!

“There is only one catch to consider. In general, stays which are discounted by more than 30% from the Best Available Rate do NOT earn IHG Rewards Club points or stay credit.”

    I disagree with this.

When you do a dummy booking the final confirmation page shows “You will earn xxx points from this stay.”

I’ve had promos in the past that were more than the 30% discount and the have qualified for points and stays and promos.

If you book this promo then PRINT the final page that shows you will earn the points JIC.

    • Rob says:

The 30% rule is a long standing one. Because it is only on the final confirmation page that it says ‘you will earn xxxx points’ IHG brushes off complaints about non-qualifying stays on the basis that you had already booked when the message came up.

I agree it is not always applied but they are generally strict when it is.

      • Nigel says:

        Thanks for the reply.
However how is a “normal” user supposed to know that there is a hidden limit on these kind of promos if it specifically does not state that this is a Non Qualifying stay ?

Surely a promo must state this??

If you look at the T%C’s they are not specific (and not relevan her-they do not mention Spire level 🙂 )

        • Rob says:

They’re not. They just get annoyed with IHG when they get no points and go off in a huff.

The only concession IHG has made is to add the line ‘Stays will earn IHG Rewards Club points’ in the small print of some promotions where they insist hotels credit points. Unfortunately they don’t do the reverse so you never see, except on Friends & Family rates, any small print saying ‘This stay will not earn points’,

  • Nigel says:

I’ve been looking through FT but could not find any examples.

The one you give is for a third party corporate discount. whereas the promo you advertise is throough IHG itself.

Also i cannot find anywhere in IHG T&C’s thats states the Qualifying rate cannot be over 30% less than BF.
