  There is a simple reason why housing around Heathrow is relatively cheaper than other equidistant suburbs of London and as a consequence, I find it reprehensible that the masses should be held ransom by someone who knew there was an airport next door and now wants to complain about the noise.

  Personally, I would go for a nuclear option and add capacity to both Gatwick and Heathrow with, if required, say up to 6 runways at each and end the discussion for all time.

  We certainly don’t need a £40bn train to shave 15 minutes off a journey to somewhere we have no intention of going and if they want to come south they can fly or add 30 minutes to their journey time !

  Raffles – I’ve decided that I would like my wife and I to experience Singapore Airlines Suites Class from Frankfurt to New York. We do not have any KrisFlyer miles but each churn credit cards. Do you have any advice on how many points it is one way (i.e. redemption cost) and what the best ways are to accumulate KrisFlyer miles (Amex transfers, SPG transfers – any others?)? TIA.

    We have just opened a Kris Flyer account so that we can transfer our upgraded platinum MR pts and hopefully upcoming referral points to it as well. We want to do a one way business class flight from Singapore to Brisbane in a few years and need 55k each to do it – planning on using these pts then cancel and do again in 6 mths. Any other tips would be great.

    Looks like 67,500 each Saver and 130,000 eachs Standard. Not sure how easy 2F is as a Saver but easy to join Krisflyer and check.

    15% discount for online booking so under 60k each.

    SQ is 1:1 with Amex MR.

    If the US$ exchange rate picks up, you can use the IDC trick to get a big bonus on your SQ points – this is what I did when we flew SQ: https://headforpoints.com/2013/07/16/50-bonus-on-your-entire-amex-membership-rewards-balance-when-you-get-an-amex-idc-card/

    Can’t remember if HSBC is an SQ partner off the top of my head?

      Yes, sadly at $1.30 vs the $1.60 when I did it too it’s nowhere near as good a deal at present!
