Links on Head for Points may support the site by paying a commission.  See here for all partner links.

Here are two limited time deals which are only running this weekend.  Both have already started:

Double Avios at Gate 365

For this weekend only, until tomorrow night, you can earn double Avios points on EVERY purchase at the British Airways Gate 365 online shopping portal.

The link is here.

If you have used Gate 365 in the past and have been disappointed by the failure of your purchase to track, you should know that BA has recently replaced the company operating the store.  I am told that tracking rates are vastly improved so it is worth giving it another try.

80% bonus when you buy Hilton HHonors points

Until Monday, Hilton HHonors (the new Hilton Tallinn Park, recently reviewed here, is pictured above) is offering an 80% bonus when you purchase points.

The Hilton ‘buy points’ page is here.

Regular readers of Head for Points will know that I tend to value Hilton points at 0.3p each.  You are paying 0.42p ($800 / £600 for 144,000) here so the maths does not look good.

Five star Hilton, Conrad and Waldorf-Astoria hotels typically run to 80,000 points per night.  In this sale you would be paying $444 for 80,000 points which is often more than you would be paying for a five star in a major city.  This is not a bargain.

However, Hilton HHonors IS a decent deal at cheaper point levels.   The Hampton by Hilton in Sheffield, for example, is 10,000 points per night.  At 0.42p per point you would be paying roughly £42 per night if you bought the points.  That is a 58% discount on the typical nightly rate of £100.  Hampton properties include free breakfast as well.

On the other hand, the Hilton Sheffield is 30,000 points per night.  You would be paying around £125 for those points which is the same as the typical £125 cash cost – and you would earn points and miles back on the cash rate.

If you just buying a handful of points to top off your account, the price per point doesn’t matter anyway.  If you a few thousand short of a redemption then this is a decent opportunity to buy them.

    • Andy says:

The Double Tesco points with a BA Amex card earns 5.8 avios points per £ spend. A £30 Tesco spend earns 174 avis points, more than some short haul BA flights!

  • Neil says:

Anyone know how long the Hilton bonus points take to appear in your account? I bought some on Thursday but only base points showing up – receipt from Hilton clearly shows bonus points thanks.

    • AndyR says:

Mine were instant in the last 100% bonus offer.

    • mark2 says:

I bought some at 0706 today and the full amount including bonus is in the account now.

  • Andrew M says:

Does anyone know if the 150 Clubcard points on gift card purchases is likely to be doubled?

    • Brian says:

      No, it won’t be.

    • Peter K says:

I trawled through the info yesterday and hidden away it said no.

Basically anything that usually provides bonus points does not generate double points as well, with gift cards one of the items specifically mentioned.

    • Fenny says:

Definitely not. I bought some gift cards yesterday to take advantage of the 15% discount and only got the normal points on them, but double on my grocery shopping.

    • mark2 says:

In the past, with a coupon for double points I did not get double bonus points but I did get extra points as if the cards were a normal purchase I.e. For £100 cards 300 plus 100 points

  • Johnnycl says:

Worth a look at some of the fixed points offers on Avios.com with the double points promo as these are also included. 200 avios with an activated free O2 sim, 200 avios for reviewing a letting agent, 21,600 for Sky TV, 6,000 for More Than pet insurance….

My partner’s Hilton account is less than 30 days old so the website is not letting him purchase. Tried on the phone and the lady said it needs to be done online. Is that right?
