4,500 Avios posting from Sunday Times promo – jump in now if you haven’t already

Links on Head for Points may support the site by paying a commission.  See here for all partner links.

It is now almost four weeks since I wrote about the very generous Avios earning offer from The Sunday Times Travel Magazine.

You could earn 4,500 Avios points for just £30.

The good news is that people who applied in the first wave have now received their Avios points.  The promotion is still running so, if you haven’t applied yet, you should jump in now.

How the deal works

I have a soft spot for The Sunday Times Travel Magazine, probably because they tend to mention this site occasionally.

It has a slightly more aggressive tone than Conde Nast Traveller, being happier to call out companies or cities which don’t live up to the hype.  The August issue had a great piece demolishing various over-promoted destinations, companies and services.

Whether or not you are an occasional reader of the magazine, you are going to want to subscribe.  This is because The Sunday Times Travel Magazine is offering 4,500 Avios points if you sign up for a £30 subscription before 30th September.

At 0.66p per point, this is a no-brainer for most of us.

As I mentioned at the top of the page, the points are posting successfully.

The offer does NOT show immediately.  You need to enter STTM0916 in the ‘Promotional Code’ box and hit ‘Submit’.  The page will refresh and the deal will show.

Note that cutting and pasting the code sometimes fails. If it fails, type it in. Try upper and lower case too.

YOU MUST CLICK SUBMIT so the page reloads. If you don’t, you will NOT get the Avios as you will be signing up to the standard package.

If you do not see a box during the check-out process asking for your Avios or BAEC account number, you should assume that it has gone wrong and will not work.  Try again using a different browser or device.

In summary:

you receive 4,500 Avios in either British Airways Executive Club or avios.com

the offer runs until 30th September

the cost for a yearly subscription is £30 via direct debit (which you can cancel via online banking as soon as the first payment is taken ) or £32 via credit card or cheque

Avios are awarded within 28 days

you are restricted to one subscription per household and per Avios account

You are paying 0.66p per Avios point if you ascribe zero value to the magazine.  Given the content I doubt anyone who reads this site will not get some value from it.

You still have another month to jump in.  These are cheap Avios and you get something interesting to read as well.

its £43 for mainland Europe….. £30 is UK only…. poo

  • John G says:

Received first magazine a few days ago but no points yet (Avios.com). Sounds like the only people to receive points used their BAEC number?

    • BlueThroughCrimp says:

I’m in the same boat. My subscription was to BAEC and has posted, but my gift subscription for my sister was credited to avios.com and hasn’t.

  • fbrj says:

OT – I have a a few 000 avios in my Iberia account (set up some years ago), which I wish to transfer to BAEC (or avios.com). I’ve followed Raffles helpful guide but the only option I’m given, at the transfer point, is from Iberia to either BAEC or avios but not the other way round – which is what I want to do! Any ideas?

    • harry says:

use combine my avios on the avios.com site, don’t try it on the Iberia site

      • fbrj says:

harry – just the job many thanks (seems obvious when you know how!). So, Iberia – Avios – BAEC done in a trice…..

        • harry says:

          you’re welcome

I struggled over this at first as well!

ridiculous IT failing but there ya go

  • Joan says:

I got my first magazine a few days ago – good piece on Venice which is next on my list . I got my points yesterday . I did email the magazine company last week to ask where my points were and they said don’t worry they are coming …. So all good .

    • Simon says:

We just bought the in-laws a trip to Venice, the next day this magazine turned up as a present and they thought we had it planned all along. A good piece on Venice, overall a very quality magazine.

  • James67 says:

I don’t understand all the fuss about avios.com points, it is clear they have a system for working through the posting of avios and sooner or later they will be credited. If there is a delay it may be due to avios not NI, if not credited after 28 days just email or call NI.

    • Worzel says:

      +1 . Move on.

      • Genghis says:

Is that because you have received all your points, gents?

        • James67 says:

Nope, and I’m not worried, and I’m going fishing!

        • Worzel says:

The points will turn up- it’s early days!

I can’t pick up the phone and question the delay as I went down the CC /BAEC route.

The magazine itself deserves recognition as it is a reminder of why we acquire/collect points in the first place.

          • Genghis says:

Indeed. The magazine is a decent read. I want to go to Halnaker now in October once back from hols.

  • Angelo says:

I note people have had difficulty changing the default code to the code for this offer. Bizarrely the page would not refresh/change code/offer on my iMac or iPad but did work on my iPhone! May be a useful tip if others experience the same issue.

  • Jumble says:

I bought one for me on BAEC, which have posted, and one for myself as a ‘gift’ on Avios.com, which haven’t posted. I did it before the T&Cs changed to one per household. Does anybody have a screenshot I can use in case these don’t end up posting?

  • guesswho2000 says:

OT – but for anyone who wants a free 1,000 IHG points, I saw this yesterday – http://loyaltylobby.com/2016/09/01/ihg-rewards-club-1000-free-points-for-doing-a-survey-good-way-to-extend-points-validity/

It’s a bit like e-rewards, but impressively the points posted overnight!

    • Genghis says:

Yes – I was surprised by the overnight posting though not a great return on my time – took about 15/20 mins for £4 worth of points but did it while watching a bit of TV with wife baking so not all bad

    • PT says:

Yes mine posted overnight as well, plus 20 for the next survey. Unfortunately, and not unexpectedly, they don’t count as elite qualifying status points.

      • Gavin says:

Mine have posted instantly! Not sure I will do them regularly as while I have a bunch of IHG points from doing a few stays and Accelerate earlier this year, plus the credit card spend, I don’t really have many plans to use the points!

    • Andrew* says:

Same company that offers Rewards for Thoughts though…

    • Tracy says:

Waste of time for me, only got 5 points. “We already have enough responses for this survey…..to thank you for your effort, 5 points”.

    • Charlie says:

Thanks for the tip off, just went through it and got 1000 IHG points, they posted immediately.
