The September British Airways sale will be running until the 21st.  Just for this weekend – until Tuesday to be precise – there is an additional discount if you book a BA Holidays package.

£50 off flight + hotel bookings over £1,250

£100 off flight + hotel bookings over £2,500

£25 off flight + car bookings over £600

£50 off flight + car bookings over £1,250

£100 off flight+ car bookings over £2,500

You must book by midnight on Tuesday 13th September for travel between 15th September 2016 and 30th June 2017.

There are some excellent reasons to book a BA Holidays package instead of booking a standalone flight and then a hotel or car separately.

BA Holidays sale

These include:

IT CAN BE CHEAPER.  You will often pay less for a ‘flight and hotel’ or ‘flight and car’ booking than just for the flight.  This is because British Airways sells you a different – cheaper – sort of flight ticket (don’t worry, you still get Avios and tier points!) which is made exclusively available to travel agents.

YOU ONLY PAY A DEPOSIT NOW.  The balance is not due until five weeks before departure.  You can pay installments at any point – you can split the cost across numerous credit cards if necessary, unlike a straight ‘flight only’ booking.

BONUS AVIOS.  By booking a ‘flight and hotel’ or ‘flight and car’ package, you get an extra bonus.  You receive 2 Avios per £1 for your booking.  This is in addition to the Avios from the flight and from your credit card spend.

But there is one downside:

NO ON BUSINESS POINTS.  Flights booked via BA Holidays do not qualify for On Business points in the BA small business scheme.

The home page for the sale offers is here.  If you had been thinking about booking something in for the Winter or next Easter, now is a good chance to have a look.  The extra discount is available until Tuesday.

  • Dan says:

How would Hilton or Holiday Inn treat me on a BA Holidays booking with status and points earning?

    • Dave says:

Crowne Plaza Helsinki gave me all my usual Platinum benefits, including an upgrade to a club room. No points awarded for the stay, apart from 600 Welcome Amenity points.

    • Rob says:

No points except for incidentals (and even that with Hilton is down to the hotel), status benefits at hotel discretion.

  • Alice says:

Are there any tricks to getting these from the regions? Trying to book BA holidays from Manchester or Leeds has always seemed much harder to search for and I’ve never found anything particularly cheap.

    • Boi says:

Me too…. BA hols never come out as the cheapest for me living in Leeds

      • Stu_N says:

I usually find the holiday deal I want starting from London as the search tool is better for a London departure. Step two is to start again flight-only from Edinburgh and compare that to London to check there is nothing bonkers with connections – usually adds about £80-100pp unless you hit a very expensive connecting flight. Step three puts everything together and checks the extra for EDI is about the £80-100. It usually is.

  • Chris says:

Do you still get 3 Avios / £ for using BA Premium Amex? Or does that not apply to BA Holiday spend?

    • Tariq says:

Pretty sure you do get the bonus. Was May when I paid the deposit for my last BA Holiday booking so cannot see the rewards statement going that far anymore – the transaction posted under BA.COM UK WEST DRAYTON so I don’t think there would be a difference in terms of bonus Amex spend awarding.

I paid the remainder of the booking using the Amex Gold Charge card and it went through as airline and I got the airline bonus points.

      • Stu_N says:

Yes it’s treated in same way as a flight only booking so you get 3 Avios per £. Last payment I made for a trip in Nov was 28 July and definitely got the higher rate. 3 Avios per £ for paying, plus 2 per £ bonus from BA Holidays, plus whatever on the flight is fairly useful “rebate”.

  • Graeme says:

Got another great ex GLA deal, best WTP fares I have seen ex UK. 2 weeks GLA-LGW-TPA domestic and WTP with Group W car (Grand Cherokee) for £775 each next May including the extra discount this weekend. Be hard pushed to beat that!!

    • roger says:

Also available on IB’s own website for 965 Euro.

      • harry says:

        sure – that’s a hot price

why Puerto Rico? can I ask?

        holiday?

      • xcalx says:

I wish IB would make the MAD-SJU-MAD flight year round. It would save me the Avios for the connections to Miami. for winter cruises.

        • roger says:

          Yes on mine too.
Itching to buy GC instore but will wait, just in case any flight booking comes up then might use TF to book flight.

  • Derek H says:

Pleased to hear about getting Tier points for a holiday. Now I have no excuse for not booking a winter holiday!
