News in brief:

3,600 Avios with £75 LEGO City spend

Tesco Direct has launched a fantastic new LEGO deal.

As you can see here, you will will earn 1,500 bonus Clubcard points (worth 3,600 Avios or 3,750 Virgin Flying Club miles) if you spend £75 on LEGO City products by Monday night.

With Christmas getting ever closer, this could be a good time to stock up.

The Sunday Times Travel Magazine £30 code working again

The confusing on-going saga of The Sunday Times Travel Magazine Avios subscription promotion continues.

I won’t go into it all again although the latest developments were discussed here.

Yesterday I was told by two people that telephone agents are telling callers that the promotion is now totally cancelled, despite being featured across two pages of the current issue.  However, the good news is that – at least as at 10pm last night – the old code of STTM0916 is working again.  This will get you a 12-month subscription and 4,500 Avios for £30.

The link to subscribe is here.  I would jump in quickly if you are interested.

  • Robert says:

Worth noting that the Economist deal is working for Canada again. I just signed up, $199.50 CAD(including tax) for 13,200 avios and a year’s supply of print and digital version. I live in Canada now so useful for me.

  • Jovanna says:

OT: Just called MBNA to cancel the Diamond card and sign up for the Virgin Black card. I had to cancel the Diamond card first then I was put through to another department for the Virgin card – ‘new applications’. I was 25 minutes going through a fresh application only to be told that they couldn’t give me a decision there and then and it would be 7-10 business days. That seems crazy! I had a £13.5k credit limit on the Diamond card. I always paid off the full balance on time each month. There’s no rhyme nor reason to some of these CC companies.

    • Erico1875 says:

They aren’t making any money off you are they?

      • Mr Dee says:

I have doubts that they make much money off the big point collectors but the majority of their customers will not be heading for big points and end up paying interest/charges.

    • the realharry says:

managed to get 12,000 Avios out of September – RIP

plus 15% Travel Extras a few times, parking refunded now but I keep the 15% & the points

my Biebers also went well 🙂

    • James67 says:

Because they are probably still having sleepless nights over how much your BMI MC cost them Rob.

  • Fay says:

Code just worked for me on Sunday Times travel mag.. I meant to do this when it was first posted but never got round to it, so thanks very much for the reminder. Looking forward to receiving the points.

  • Carolyn says:

Tried copying the code from the HFP email into the promotion code box and it was rejected. Followed what Barnaby100 suggested and backspaced at end of code to remove the space and it worked – thanks Barnaby.

  • the realharry says:

‘despite being featured across two pages of the current issue!’

I think this is the real point

you can’t print a magazine with this offer, then claim you are not making the offer 🙂

the telephone gals are just doing what they are told – but the offer is still going strong

Roger – why the hell would you not get the points multiple times, provided you took a few careful steps?

eg different email address, delivery address, different Avios a/c; I don’t think same payment method would matter a jot as that does not make it same household

  • Genghis says:

    1) only one companion voucher per year. You could cancel, get the refund and apply for BAPP in 6 months’ time for another sign up and start earning another voucher
    2) the lloyds Amex comes with Mastercard. My wife and I have just done this card. Can get a 4,500 avios sign up, earn 2.5 avios/£ for first 6 months on the Amex and FX fee free. Low fee at £24. It’s a decent card IMO. MC spend counts towards the £7k spend target for upgrade voucher.

Perhaps look into the SPG card as these can be converted to avios. If referred by Rob, you’d get 12k SPG after £1k spend. If you can refer your partner you’ll get another 5k and they 12k for another 1k spend. SPG points can then be combined free of charge within household. So you’d have in total 29k points. These would convert to 34k avios. The SPG card has a fee but of course you can get a prorata refund after hitting the spend.

    • Guy G says:

      Cheers for the help.

I thought you cannot cancel your BA card if you want to keep the voucher? Or there was some stipulation about having the card and the voucher (especially if you want to rebook)?

      • Genghis says:

If you cancel BAPP, contrary to Amex advice, the 241 just sits there in your BAEC account. You must pay the taxes on a 241 using an Amex but any Amex (including the Lloyds one for instance) will do. It doesn’t even need to be an Amex in your name as Amex don’t do name verification. The unknown really though is what happens if you then cancel a 241 flight re getting your voucher back if you don’t have the card.

      • william merrett says:

I’ve flown on a 2-4-1 generated from a car which was cancelled.

In my case the voucher cancelled by amex due to scheme abuse and the voucher was still good to go (used it to fly first class to moscow)

    • Kipto says:

      11000 not 12000

  • Andrew H says:

O/T – I have a complimentary Heathrow Express business upgrade code which I won’t be using. The code is SEP16-90L15. Can whomever uses it, reply here to confirm that it has indeed been used. Thanks!

    Terms and conditions

Complimentary Business First upgrade code valid only when purchasing a ticket on heathrowexpress.com or using the Heathrow Express mobile app. Code must be redeemed by 30th November 2016. One code per customer.

  • Chewbacca says:

The code for 4,500 is still working today and just got the email advising that will be processed in 24 hours. I would think if you’ve subscribed where the page says you’re getting 4,500 Avios then they have to honour it.
