  OT: Hence Bits thread. Intercontinental Hotels will no longer provide Club Access to those who are upgraded to rooms which would usually attract access so it seems – at least this is what the IC Bali told me this morning quoting new T & C’s as from September 16. I had missed this “enhancement”.

  * New Ambassador T&Cs
  InterContinental® Ambassador Benefits: A room one category higher than purchased will be assigned upon check-in to InterContinental Ambassadors. InterContinental Ambassadors will be entitled to a late check-out time of 4:00 pm. Ambassadors receive fresh fruit and water in their room on arrival, with mineral water replenished daily. Ambassadors receive a personalised welcome letter and in-room gift. Ambassadors are entitled to one free Pay-TV film per stay (where a cost is applicable). Ambassadors are charged Single Rate for Double Room Occupancy. When staying on Reward Nights, all Ambassador and Royal Ambassador Privileges apply with the exception of upgrades, free Pay-TV film per stay, 24-hour guaranteed room availability, 8:00 am early check-in and complimentary mini-bar beverages (where a cost for these benefits is applicable). A Rewards Night booking must be booked under the IHG Rewards Club account of the member for him/her to enjoy the benefits.
  The Club InterContinental Experience or Club Lounge access will not be given to Ambassadors as this is not a benefit that is included in Ambassador Status.

  They have offered me access for a fee of $50 per night for 2 people.

    I had this in Abu Dhabi a year ago. Bit of a joke as the rooms are often identical apart from club access. Some hotel do not even have dedicated club rooms and just code it in to a normal room key.

    Has this not always been the case? I am always upgraded to a club room but never get club access unless I pay the ipgrade. That seems fair to me: let’s not forget that ambassador is available to anybody with $200 and that fee is recouped anyway through the free night. Giving away lounge access too would be overly generous I think . $50 per night looks like a very fair price to me- surely breakfast alone would cost that much?

      Like Tangey said, It has alway been the case. I think the wording was slightly different in the T&C, was something like only RA will get free access to club if upgraded to a room that comes with Club access.

      I think probably property specific – I did get club access at IC Bangkok in March on an AMB booking. The text I cut and pasted above was included and highlighted in an email from reservations. Earlier this year the IC Bali told me something entirely different i.e. that if I booked the room below club room I would get upgraded to this with full club package including airport transfers. I’m not saying that $50 is a bad deal for 2 people to access club facilities – just that it’s apparently a rule now that all ICs are applying.

      Yes but it is only relevant when a guest is moved TO club room, not on any booking, and I would have thought there is some connection between lounge capacity and club room numbers?

      (In stark contrast to the situation at Hiltons)

        Not really, if you sell your club rooms many hotels will keep marketing them and stick a coffee machine and bathrobe in a normal room.

  O/T interesting quirk of Amex/Hilton offer of £50 off £250 that’s kicking about at the moment. The offer seems to have activated on my card having spent £199 a month ago and £80 last week. Didn’t expect it, but seems to have activated the £50 statement credit.

    I think this is more common than we realise – I dug out the BA offer Ts&Cs recently to check exactly this, and buried in the text is the word ‘accumulative’, which implies that multiple bookings will count 🙂

  Damn, I forgot to click through for a non refundable booking I made yesterday for Nuremberg (EUR149). My brain was wired to making the bookings through the app because of an Accelerate task and I forgot about the HFP offer.

      No. The HfP offer is decent though as it allows you to get the IHG best rate and still get cash / points back.

      Ah, OK. Terms state “completed” bookings, so looks like you do have to show up.

      Earning Award Miles

      Flying Blue members may choose to earn Award Miles at participating hotels and resorts subject to following conditions:

      • Award Miles will only be earned on completed hotel booking that are paid in full by a credit or debit card.

      • Award Miles will post to valid Flying Blue accounts 2-4 weeks after checkout from qualifying hotel stays (posting time varies by hotel)
