Was the triple points at Hilton not extended tbrough 31st January?

  • David says:

Based upon the mailing in October, 31st Dec is also the last day for any ‘Jumeirah Hotels & Resorts’ and also ‘DESIGN HOTELS’ bookings to be made to enjoy Amex Plat partnership benefits. (Travel needs to be completed by 31st March 2017)

Other Plat partnerships that ended: Mr & Mrs Smith stopped in October, Relais & Chateaux along with Small Luxury Hotels of the World needed travel to be completed by today/tomorrow respectively. Going forward just ‘FINE HOTELS & RESORTS’, plus ‘The Hotel Collection’ and ‘The Vacation Collection’ remain. For so many options, Amex presented it very badly historically IMO.

This may seem lazy, but i’m on the road so not easy to log in to my various accounts to try and find an answer 🙁

    Does anyone know how long:
    1) the Starwood to Marriott status match will be around for?
    2) when the Starwood status year ends (is it at the end of year, or another defined date?)
    3) am I better off doing the status match in a few days (in 2017) if possible, or does it not really matter?

    Thanks in advance 🙂

    • Rob says:

I can’t belive they would stop status matching when the schemes are fully merging in 12 months. It makes no sense.

    • AndyR says:

Starwood status year runs to end of Feb each year.

I don’t see any reason for waiting to status match? The expiry of your status will be the same in both schemes so there is no benefit waiting until 2017 e.g. if your SPG expires 28th Feb 2017 then your Marriott status will too.

    • Pangolin says:

The status matching is now essentially immediate once you link your accounts. This will remain true until a full merger of the systems, which won’t take place until at least 2018. There’s currently no matching of Lifetime status, however, and this will no doubt be one of the things that has to be sorted out in the merger.

So just link your accounts and then you’ll have the benefit of status across both programs and the ability to transfer points to wherever they’ll be most effective.

OT: Yesterday there was mention of a £50 off £200 spend offer on Amex Gold/Plat cards.
I emailed Amex to ask if they could add it manually as it didn’t appear as available on my account.

They said they couldn’t locate the offer, but if I could give them the complete text they would try.

Does anyone have it on theirs and could copy/paste here?

    Thanks!

O/T Is it still possible to receive extra points for adding supplementary card holders?

    • Alex W says:

Saw an advert on Facebook offering 500 points for a supplementary on the BA Amex.

    • TGLoyalty says:

Worth a message to find out got 5k MR for adding a supporting to my Platinum card a couple months back

  • the_real_a says:

OT – speaking of the value of AMEX. My flight was delayed 5 hours at T5 due to an APU failure. I had a “satisfying” lunch at Fortnum and Mason costing £50 and this was promptly paid by AMEX insurance under the travel inconvenience section. The Jamon ham is delicious but cannot recommend the blue mountain coffee (at £8 a cup its not that great). Nice benefit though, I was not that unhappy with the delay.

    • Rob says:

With another Euro 600 coming your way, I would have thrown in a nice bottle of champagne as well ….

      • the_real_a says:

BA paid £510 based on the online claim form within 2 weeks without any fuss. Although they did offer 36k Avios which i politely declined 🙂

        • David says:

Given they will only be valuing them for BoB purposes at 0.8p each, asking you to accept a value over 1.4p for them is beyond insulting…

    • Louise says:

Happened to us a JFK last year – we had a big porterhouse steak each and AMEX paid out the $200 food bill 🙂

  • TGLoyalty says:

Finally bought 30k SPG points @ 50% discount sure they will come in handy 1.5p so won’t lose out.

If anyone wants to be gifted any at 50% off let me know sure Rob can put us in touch or my Twitter is the same as my name here

  • CDB says:

Thank you for these reminders – good time to do some housekeeping. Transfer via Iberia proved useful to get some avios into my wife’s a/c to use Lloyds voucher which was expiring today, got good value Club World to Montreal out Toronto back for 52k avios against 100k – it’s a generally expensive route, even on BA sale price £1.8k that’s 2.5p/point with £500 taxes and using the voucher, list price for actual dates was £2.3k. Also cleared out 72k of old Emirates points between us (which came as compensation and now expiring) for £360 spending money at Heathrow for some tech. Happy New Year!
