  I was looking at corinthia Lisbon last night strangely.. the hotels price in euros how would this price comparison and potentially 100% back be compared to say a U.K. site eg hotels.com? Who would pick the exchange rate?

    Your card provider merchant (visa / MasterCard / Amex) would apply exchange rate (and card provider would apply any fees if applicable)

    Re GHA & Corinthia, as far as I’m aware all the GHA brands have a login screen on their websites so if you’re a GHA member you can login to get your benefits and stay credit as well as the benefits of booking direct.

  I’ve stayed with them in Prague before. I recall they offered a large range of packages and benefits. For rates similar to, or a little higher than their competitors my stay included return airport transfers, discounted use of their cars in tbe city, room upgrade, and black theatre tickets. IIRC i booked through their own website.

  So should the headline be ‘no status benefits via GHA’?? In any case, based on my experience with other chains’ best rate ‘guarantees’, I’d take that promise with a pinch of salt.

  The Budapest property is rather nice – lovely spa. Location not as good as some of the 5-star chain hotels along the river, though.

  Stayed in the Corinthia a couple of years ago. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a stunning building and the service was great. But IMO there are much better options in London from a value for money perspective. Struggling to find anything under £600 in this sale. At the price, it’s just not worth it.

  Just a point to note re: GHA… I achieved Platinum status via the Business Traveller Plus offer; after 8 nights stayed they gave me a FOC upgrade to BLACK status! Which has carried forward to this year for another 12 months.

  I can’t speak for the Corinthia in Lisbon, but the Tivoli (also bookable via GHA) has a great rooftop bar which is one of the coolest places to hangout for the Lisbonians!

  I’m confised about the Corinthia’s Best rate guarrantee, it says it will match the lower rate and then give you 100% discount… does that mean if i find the same room cheaper (same conditions, hoops jumped through etc…) you stay for free (net of taxes etc…) ?

    In theory you would prioritise Virtuoso over a direct booking purely because, as a luxury travel network, they expect you to be a high roller and/or they want to encourage Virtuoso agents to send them more business.

    The logic is that if you go home and tell your agent you didn’t like the place, they will start sending people elsewhere …..
