50% off in the Corinthia Hotels annual sale – and status benefits via GHA

Long-term Head for Points readers will remember that I did a review of the Corinthia Hotel in London early 2015 after the hotel let me have a tour of its facilities and suites.

It is a genuinely impressive piece of work. It is probably the most luxurious new hotel to open in London in the last 20 years and it is well worth popping in if you are passing, if only for a drink.

Whilst the hotel is surprisingly big, the branding is very low key and it is easy to miss. It is on Northumberland Avenue – if you come out of Embankment tube station and turn left under the bridge, it is in front of you as emerge, opposite the theatre. The website is here if you want to learn more.

If you are looking to treat someone to a special weekend in London, you can save 30% on the Best Available Rate in Corinthia’s sale which started last week and goes on until 28th February.

The deals at their other five-star European hotels are even better, although these properties are not at the same level of opulence as London.

For stays at the Corinthia hotels in Malta, Budapest, Lisbon, Prague and St Petersburg, you will save 50% on the Best Available Rate for bookings made during the sale.

Bookings have to be made by 28th February for stays until the end of this year.

In an attempt to encourage you to book direct, the company also offers special deals (varied by hotel) including complimentary room upgrades, extended check-outs and discounts in their restaurants and bars.

New in 2017 is Corinthia’s best rate guarantee, reimbursing 100% of your entire stay cost if you can find a better rate elsewhere within 24 hours of booking. As far as I can tell this is the most generous best rate guarantee anywhere in the hotel industry – and could prove very expensive if they can’t back up their rates.

Global Hotel Alliance

You can’t earn Avios when you stay with Corinthia. It is a member of Global Hotel Alliance (GHA), however, which has its own loyalty programme.  GHA does not have any airline partnerships so you cannot earn miles from your stay.

Subscribers to Business Traveller magazine get free Platinum level membership of the GHA Discovery programme as I outlined in this article. That said, my gut feeling is that Corinthia would prioritise direct bookers who are due extra benefits under their ‘direct booking bonuses’ scheme over GHA status members who book via the GHA website.  You can book the sale deals via the Corinthia website here.

I was looking at corinthia Lisbon last night strangely.. the hotels price in euros how would this price comparison and potentially 100% back be compared to say a U.K. site eg hotels.com? Who would pick the exchange rate?

    • Genghis says:

Your card provider merchant (visa / MasterCard / Amex) would apply exchange rate (and card provider would apply any fees if applicable)

    • John says:

Re GHA & Corinthia, as far as I’m aware all the GHA brands have a login screen on their websites so if you’re a GHA member you can login to get your benefits and stay credit as well as the benefits of booking direct.

  • Tom C says:

Thanks, Rob. I am a fan of the London property so will take advantage of this.

I’ve stayed with them in Prague before. I recall they offered a large range of packages and benefits. For rates similar to, or a little higher than their competitors my stay included return airport transfers, discounted use of their cars in tbe city, room upgrade, and black theatre tickets. IIRC i booked through their own website.

So should the headline be ‘no status benefits via GHA’?? In any case, based on my experience with other chains’ best rate ‘guarantees’, I’d take that promise with a pinch of salt.

The Budapest property is rather nice – lovely spa. Location not as good as some of the 5-star chain hotels along the river, though.

Stayed in the Corinthia a couple of years ago. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a stunning building and the service was great. But IMO there are much better options in London from a value for money perspective. Struggling to find anything under £600 in this sale. At the price, it’s just not worth it.

Just a point to note re: GHA… I achieved Platinum status via the Business Traveller Plus offer; after 8 nights stayed they gave me a FOC upgrade to BLACK status! Which has carried forward to this year for another 12 months.

I can’t speak for the Corinthia in Lisbon, but the Tivoli (also bookable via GHA) has a great rooftop bar which is one of the coolest places to hangout for the Lisbonians!

  • BigDave says:

I’m confised about the Corinthia’s Best rate guarrantee, it says it will match the lower rate and then give you 100% discount… does that mean if i find the same room cheaper (same conditions, hoops jumped through etc…) you stay for free (net of taxes etc…) ?

  • Ben says:

Hi Rob. You’ve said that your gut says that Corinthia would prioritise direct bookers over GHA but do you think they’d prioritise over Bon Vivant? Cheers

    • Rob says:

In theory you would prioritise Virtuoso over a direct booking purely because, as a luxury travel network, they expect you to be a high roller and/or they want to encourage Virtuoso agents to send them more business.

The logic is that if you go home and tell your agent you didn’t like the place, they will start sending people elsewhere …..
