News in brief:

Hilton EMEA sale ending soon

The Hilton EMEA sale which covers the UK, Europe, Middle East and Africa ends on 31st January. The special landing page is here.

Whilst it is nominally called the Winter Sale, you can book for any weekend between now and the end of 2017.  The sale offers a discount of up to 30% off the standard Best Available Rate if you are a Hilton HHonors member, albeit that sale rates require prepayment and are non-refundable.  You receive a smaller discount (25%) if you are not logged in.  This offer is for all Hilton Group hotels, including Hampton, Conrad, Waldorf-Astoria etc.

Malaysia Airlines £1500 Sydney / Melbourne deal still available

If you have been thinking about a trip down under then you still have a couple of days to jump on this excellent deal from Malaysia Airlines.

Via Expedia, you can book London to Sydney or Melbourne in Malaysia Airlines business class for just £1,500 return.

To get this price you MUST book a ‘flight and hotel’ package.  If you select the cheapest hostel option for just one night (select ‘I only want a hotel for part of my trip’) it will cost exactly £1,507 for one person to Sydney.  You do not need to stay in the hostel and your return flight will not be cancelled if you don’t turn up.

Remember that Malaysia Airlines is a oneworld alliance member so your flights earn Avios and British Airways tier points.  Australia would be 600 tier points return (140 + 160 + 160 + 140) which is a BA Silver card, albeit you’d still need to have flown 4 BA flights in your current card year before you were upgraded.

Between London and Kuala Lumpur you will get an A380, with an A330 onwards on most routes.  The A330 business class seat is the latest version and has some very attractive solo window seats as the seating plan on this page of the Malaysia website shows.

Bangkok, Phuket and Bali are also available for around £1,100 return.

You may want to try other Asian destinations too.

Pop over to Expedia and have a play around.  It is VERY easy to find dates later in the year – note that the maximum possible stay is 25 days from departure.  You must travel by 26th November 2017.

Hi Rob and again thanks. Managed to bag three seats to Sydney for me, my wife and a friend – arrive in the evening so the hotel requirement came in really handy – arrive, night at airport hotel, start holiday.

  • Graeme says:

OT – no coverage of the new Thomson credit card, Rob? 😉

  • Nick says:

Any advice on which dates work for the £1500 Malaysian deal? I cant find anything.

    • Laurence Dalby says:

Just keep trying different dates. I struggled on Expedia and found ebookers a lot easier to find availability. It’s pretty much open to destinations in all of South East Asia Malaysia fly to so be creative with destinations.

Any views on the A380 business? Not world beating but not too shabby?

Anyone have any tips for a top scuba diving destination in that region that would link well with this offer?

    • CV3V says:

Its not the best business class out there, but its a lot better than Club World, and its on an A380.

Not sure whats happening in the business cabin, but in the MAS KLIA business class lounge they stopped serving champagne and replaced with sparkling wine (hope BA aint reading this).

    • CV3V says:

Have a look at Perhentian Islands in Malaysia, not as famous as other places but well regarded.

    • Will says:

Nice one on so much info!! Will look up. I’ve heard much about the ones off the east coast of Borneo though travel warnings in place? We were staying in Kao Lak and there was absolutely no visibility but no doubt wrong time of yr and not best place.

    1)Which lounges can we use?
2)Can we ‘guest’ in two of our friends that are travelling in WTP on the same flight? (if so which lounges)

    • Mike says:

You can use any and all of BA, AA, CX Flounges.

AA has jelly beans which means I usually stop by and stock up.

    • Simmo says:

Great! – And I can have a guest also!

  • Mikescores says:

Just had a look at end September into October for KL – about £1350 in business. But don’t forget you have to book a hotel; tick the box that you don’t need the hotel for the whole of your trip, enter the one night and then you access those fares. Good luck.

  • David says:

Can’t get the Expedia deal to work for dates in July and August for 4 travellers

  • David says:

I’m sure its in the article but I can’t see when the Malaysia Airlines deal via expedia ends?
Could someone let me know please thanks
