Earn Avios points from your estate agent

Links on Head for Points may support the site by paying a commission.  See here for all partner links.

We have been looking at a few niche Avios partners recently.

In one of the odder and lesser known Avios partnerships, London-focussed estate agent Chestertons is offering Avios points to anyone who uses it to rent out or sell a UK residential property.

Full details can be found on the Chestertons website here.

There are only two bits of small print you need to know:

You earn 1 Avios point per £1 in either avios.com or British Airways Executive Club, based on the ex-VAT amount you pay to them in fees

You CANNOT retrospectively claim Avios points.  If you have an existing contract with them, it is too late – it must be agreed as part of your initial fee contract.

The exception is if you are a landlord and they already let your property.  In this case, you can arrange for Avios to be awarded from the next renewal date.

Personally, I would suggest that the decision on who should sell or rent out your property is too important to be swayed by a very modest number of Avios points.

However, if you were considering using the firm anyway, you might as well take the Avios if they are on offer.

PS.  If you are a landlord, there is a brand new Avios partnership launching soon which will also be of interest to you.  I have already seen the details and it could be very lucrative.

Hi Rob, thanks for the branching out, these partnerships are always worth cataloging. As a landlord I’m curious re the potentially “very lucrative” partnership coming soon. How soon is soon? Can you reveal any more details?

  • Cate says:

Tenuous link…talking about property are there any mortgage providers out there which will allow you to pay off a mortgage with Amex? I’ve got a k200 lump sum to pay off next year and would be nice if I could put it on a reward card.

    • Alan says:

Not that I’ve heard. Best I managed was with the old Supercard – paid a £10k chunk off and received 12,500 Avios via my old bmi Mastercard 😉

    • Charlie says:

I don’t think credit cards can be used to pay off any mortgage, however even if there was this would mean you having to switch onto the mortgage which would cost you product fees, etc. However I assume you may be already looking to switch in which case consider one where you can pay using the Tesco debit card. Also consider the Tesco mortgage which lets you earn points on monthly payments, and lump sum payments, (but not when paying off in full). But never choose a mortgage simply for the ability to earn points!

      • Genghis says:

Do mortgage payments on Tesco debit cards go through as a non-financial institution payment? Any empirical evidence?

        • the real harry1 says:

I think debit cards always go through like that – after all, you can freely pay off credit cards, HMRC etc using them – also when funding gambling a/cs, debit cards never attract a fee whereas credit cards often charge you £5 for using them in those circumstances

          • Genghis says:

It was more can I earn points by paying off my mortgage with a Tesco debit card? Any experiences?

  • pointsarb says:

Another portfolio landlord here Rob and I too would be very interested in hearing about this new Avios partnership….when can we expect your coverage on this scheme please?

    • Rob says:

Was meant to launch on 15th but I think it has slipped back. It is a very niche thing but interesting for a certain group, ie BTL landlords.

  • ineverturnright says:

From my experience, they might be flexible with this. In my case I was under offer and already going through the exchange process with a buyer having not provided my BAEC number or discussed avios at the initial contract stage. I emailed the agent and they added it no questions asked.
