UPDATE – APRIL 2024:  This article is now out of date, but don’t worry.  We produce a monthly summary of the top hotel bonus point offers – please click HERE or use the ‘Hotel Offers’ menu above.

Marriott Bonvoy is offering 1,000 bonus points per night and double elite night credits on stays between 13th February and 29th April. Click here to read more and click here to register.

Keep up to date with new hotel offers by signing up for our free daily or weekly newsletters.

Marriott Rewards, the loyalty scheme for Marriott, Renaissance, The Ritz-Carlton, Autograph and many other hotel brands, has launched a very attractive sign-up bonus.  To put it mildly.

Marriott will give you 1,000 Avios points, for free, purely for signing up to Marriott Rewards.  No stay is required.

This isn’t just for British Airways Executive Members.  You can also earn 1,000 miles in:

  • Aeromexico Club Premier
  • Air Canada Aeroplan
  • Avianca-TACA LifeMiles
  • Etihad Guest
  • Lufthansa Miles & More
  • Qatar Privilege Club

The offer runs until 2nd September.  The page to join is here.

There is also a second part to the deal.  If you choose to credit your Marriott stays to Avios, or any of the other airline programmes listed, you will earn double miles on all stays until 2nd September.

You can see the earning rates for crediting Marriott stays to Avios on this page of ba.com.

At most brands you earn 2 Avios per $1 spent, so that would double to 4 Avios per $1 under this promotion.

The snag …..

…. of course, is that the majority of Head for Points readers will already be members of Marriott Rewards.  However, there may be members of your household account, or other family members whose accounts you look after, who are not.  This is an excellent opportunity to ensure that they sign up.

You need to sign-up via this special page of the Marriott website.

PS.  Do not necessarily sign-up for Avios if you have miles in some of the other programmes included.  In some cases, this offer may help reset an upcoming expiry date for miles you have elsewhere.  It is also harder to earn, say, Air Canada miles than Avios if you live in the UK so that may be a better choice if you accounts with both.

  • Tony says:

Thanks, Rob. Signed the good lady wife and I up. Very easy 2k Avios to the BAEC household pot.

  • BP says:

Signed up 100 times – worked with the old BMI 1000 points for a new account! Hopefully works with this too!

    • wetboy1uk says:

      100 times – really!

      • BP says:

Yep! Worst case – I get no avios from them. Best case I get 100k. Likely case I get 1k. Worth a try for a 10 minutes of my time to script automatic applications spread over a period of time with different email addresses.

        • Canuck says:

          Selenium or similar?

You must have opened 100 BA accounts too, otherwise Marriott systems will see 100 of the same BAEC numbers.

          • Yan says:

I am pretty sure many in China are registering tens of thousands of Marriort/BAEC accounts, given how easy this is (like similar Accor/IHG promos)

I would be very surprised if Marriott would honour this

          • the real harry1 says:

            Accor revisited?

ISTR Raffles said it is easy enough to exclude a territory such as China

            we live in hope

anyway: Accor honoured our honest Western freebies 🙂 [on a tiny scale, for the most part, ahem, xcalx… lol]

        • the real harry1 says:

I must say (as an occasional chancer) that I was in the past intrigued by this scripting stuff

seems it can win you a few competitions etc

any tech savvy person care to explain?

  • AVM says:

Looks like my 2 yr old is becoming a Marriott member tonight – thanks Rob!

  • Dave G says:

Not able to complete account activation. I enter my membership number, name and country (email & password is blanked out, can’t be entered) and i get an error:

Please correct the following and try again.
Please ensure the information you provided matches your Rewards account information. Otherwise, please call Rewards Guest Services at 1-800-450-4442.

    • Jordie says:

You need to put a post code in underneath the country but the box keeps dissapering. Have tried on Chrome, Firefox and phone but no luck

    • Genghis says:

I’ve just done it now for Mrs G. Entered the number, name etc and then clicked on continue. The blanked out section on the RHS then appeared and was able to fill everything in.

      • Dave G says:

I just did it for (my) Mrs G too. Worked fine. I signed up with a different email address and will try again.

        • Dave G says:

Worked this time round. Maybe i mis-spelled my name on the first go.

  • krys_k says:

Does one need to activate the account for the points to post, or does it happen automatically?

  • Jon says:

    Excellent, thanks!
    OT:
After having used a combination of Amex spending bonuses, referral links, the Barclaycard Hilton bonus and general spending, my friend and I have just come back from an American trip where we stayed for NINE nights in different Hiltons across the country for free! Given I’m also a gold member, most of them also gave us free brekkie/room upgrades.

This website has therefore definitely saved me £100s, so thanks again Rob!

    • Anna says:

Brilliant! Which Hiltons did you use? I’m hoping to do this on a smaller scale next year, around Washington DC and Virginia.

      • Jon says:

Hi Anna. It was all in the western US! We stayed for one or more nights at Denver airport, Grand Junction (Colorado), Las Vegas and San Francisco. I hope your trip goes well!

      • Liz says:

We are doing Atlanta, Carolinas, Outer Banks, Virgina and Washington DC road trip in Aug/Sept. I’ve booked a bog standard Hampton Inn for 5 nights in Washington – the Convention Centre one – they are all quite pricey in Washington for cash or pts – although depends on your budget – we stayed here several years ago before I collected points and it was fine – 5 min walk to Metro then you can go anywhere from there so I booked it again on pts. I bought 160k specifically for this booking before the Brexit vote last year – cost me £556 – when I booked the hotel last year for 160k pts the cash cost was £1095 and it’s still around that price now. Used 2 Hampton Inns on our recent road trip and got upgraded to big suites in both.

        • Liz says:

Points to book this now for just a King room is 209k – up 49k since I booked it in Oct.

        • xcalx says:

Did you get to Carmel Monterey and use the voucher.

  • Ralphy says:

Thanks for this Rob, just signed up my 6 BA Household Account members! Not very often these little gems come along these days but thank goodness you are here to let us know when they do!

    • Sharon says:

I will do the same! Do you think my two kids can join too? They’re in my house hold account! I wonder if they’ll get the bonus or not – it doesn’t ask for DOB on sign up page.
      Thanks

  • Brian W says:

Slightly OT but Marriott related. My 6 months without a MR account is now up and I’m staying with Marriott in Dubai 30th June and considering taking Amex Platinum instead of my normal Gold churn to get Marriott status via SPG status match.

If I apply for Platinum now will I get the SPG status processed quick enough to turn around a status match to Marriott in time for 30th June?

    Any thoughts welcome.

    • Rob says:

Probably …. you’d have the Amex in a week, so 12th June. The status match is instant once you have SPG. That means you’d have 18 days for Amex / SPG to process your status upgrade.

Check that the Dubai hotel isn’t a ‘resort’ (if it is a beach hotel) as there are virtually no status benefits, including no free breakfast, at ‘resort’ hotels as I found out in Venice last year.

      • Brian W says:

        Thanks Rob,

Much appreciated as always and also for the heads up on the Marriott Avios deal today, that’s another 4k via HFP to add to the pot.

It’s the Marriott in the Marina, harbour hotel and suites it’s called I think. Got the kids in tow this time so hoping the status gets me a 3 bedroom upgrade from the 2 bedroom one booked. Reckon there is a good chance as doubt they will be full at the end of June due to season etc.

      • Alex W says:

I got fabulous treatment at surfers paradise resort as Marriott gold. The staff were fighting over themselves to give us free stuff including breakfast.
