New ski routes on BA from Manchester

British Airways has announced two new Winter-only routes out of Manchester.  These will use the Embraer 190 aircraft which are usually based at London City Airport but sit unused over the weekend.

Every Saturday from December until April there will be flights to Salzburg (below) and Chambery.

In addition BA has announced that after a short break from October, the weekly service to London City Airport will resume in December.  There will be with flights to Manchester on Fridays and down to London on Sundays.

All flights can be booked on the BA website.  Avios seats are also now available – even if you based in London, it may be worth taking the train to Manchester if you can use points and avoid the astonishingly high fares on the Salzburg route on key weekends.

How to earn Radisson Rewards points and status from UK credit cards

How to earn Radisson Rewards points and status from UK credit cards (April 2024)

Radisson Rewards does not have a dedicated UK credit card. However, you can earn Radisson Rewards points by converting Membership Rewards points earned from selected UK American Express cards.

These cards earn Membership Rewards points:

Membership Rewards points convert at 1:3 into Radisson Rewards points which is a very attractive rate.  The cards above all earn 1 Membership Rewards point per £1 spent on your card, which converts to 3 Radisson Rewards points.

Even better, holders of The Platinum Card receive free Radisson Rewards Premium status for as long as they hold the card.  It also comes with Hilton Honors Gold, Marriott Bonvoy Gold and MeliaRewards Gold status.  We reviewed American Express Platinum in detail here.

MAN-CMF comes in as one of those golden redemptions! At 647 miles is just 3 miles below the limit of zone 1: 8 000 Avios + £35 economy, 15 500 Avios + £50 business (off-peak return).

    • the real harry1 says:

free snack & booze as well (for now) 🙂

      • Genghis says:

Any update on when BACF will stop serving free F&B?

        • Tim Millea says:

I think the official line is “this summer” but I read that it would be October. You will have sit at the front for your early morning bucks fizz.

      • Anna says:

I’ve got 4 x Man to Nice next May, it says F & B included so can I claim avios compensation if they remove it before then?

        • the real harry1 says:

yes, if it is clearly advertised as included

take screenshots – that’s what I used when I claimed my multiple 1000 Avios compos (about 30x) & that’s presumably why they reversed their position & paid up immediately

          • the real harry1 says:

but where are you seeing this? I’m looking at MAN-CMF for January & it says:
Drinks and M&S food available to buy on flights to/from London Heathrow and London Gatwick

        • Tim Millea says:

also, “and on flights to and from London City and Stansted from Summer 2017”. It does not mention Manchester but presumably that is just an omission. I cannot see Cityflyer having a different catering policy from one of its three bases.

Does the Radisson Germany offer stack with the free Friday offer?

  • Ben says:

    Hi,

I am trying to go to the Maldives early in the new year. I was wondering if anyone can reccomend any hotels, preferably with a water villa but with out being too expensive. (maybe up to £300-£400 a night max)
Or alternatively I have around 100k MR points that I could utilize if anyone knows of a good way to stay for 2-3 nights.

    Thanks

    Ben

    • Alex W says:

95k MRs would get you 2 nights at Conrad Rangali. You would have to fork out for the seaplane though, so 2 nights might not be viable. 190k MRs would get you 5 nights.

  • Dave says:

    Off Topic:

Ive got 2 JAL reward flights booked on the same ticket (with avios via BA call center), 1st flight is business, 2nd is economy.

Will I get the 3 x 32KG business class luggage allowance for the whole ticket? Or will I have a problem as the economy flight is the longer one? (Shanghai – Tokyo is business, Tokyo-Sydney is economy)

Hopefully more availability will come up so I can upgrade the second flight but if I cant Im worried….

    • Canuck says:

You typically get the higher allowance of the ticket, regardless if one or more flights are in different classes.

  • Crafty says:

OT: Gatwick North tomorrow, with partner and one year old. Never been to a lounge there. Have Lounge Club from Amex Gold which I think gets us into either Aspire or no 1 (space permitting). Which should we aim for?

  • Graham Walsh says:

OT, As a FYI, I had a case against Easyjet for my 5 hour delay and they had used their lawyers to defend it with 18 pages of “evidence”, but CEDR sided with me and awarded me the compensation. Always worth pursuing the case.

    • Alan says:

      Nice work 🙂

    • Genghis says:

I generally find the more paperwork there is, the less of an argument people have.

    • IanMacK says:

I have two EC261 cases ongoing – one through AADR against Flybe and the other through CAA PACT against Lufthansa.
Flybe have overrun their deadline by 3 weeks and so far AADR appears to have done nothing (despite 2 prompts from me to proceed to ajudication).
My Lufthansa claim was submitted around 2-9 June. PACT came back to me on 5 July saying that they were still waiting for Lufthansa reply. Nothing since.
(I had called CAA PACT and outlined both claims and CAA response prompted my action – I declined SOEP given adverse feedback on this site).
