News in brief:

Earn Avios with Rolling Luggage

Avios has launched a new partnership with luggage retailer Rolling Luggage.

At present it is only valid online via their website here. You will also be able to collect Avios in their UK High Street and airline stores which is expected to be launched next week.

The earning rate is good:

  • 5 Avios per £1 spent
  • 1,000 Avios bonus with your first purchase over £100
  • 750 Avios bonus with your second purchase over £50 within 12 months

The in-store earning system is a bit fiddly.  You do not hand over your Avios number in the shop.  Instead, you enter your purchase reference number from your receipt on their website and the Avios will be credited within 28 days.

To celebrate this new partnership, we will be running an exclusive Rolling Luggage competition later this month, with some impressive suitcases to give away.  Keep an eye on HfP.

Register for the new Starwood Preferred Guest promotion

Starwood Preferred Guest has rolled out its Autumn promotion.  It may work really well for you, and it may be a stinker.  It depends.

You can register here.

It sounds simple.  Between 12th September and 15th January, you will earn:

1,000 bonus Starpoints per stay at St. Regis, The Luxury Collection, W, Le Méridien, Westin, Sheraton, Tribute Portfolio and Design Hotels

500 bonus Starpoints per stay at Aloft, Element and Four Points

10,000 bonus Starpoints when you stay 25 or more nights

The snag is that only a modest percentage of Starwood hotels are participating.

Here is the list of 1,000 point hotels and here is the list of 500 point hotels.  If you stay at a hotel which isn’t taking part, you don’t get any bonus.

If you stay one night at a cheap participating Sheraton, the extra 1,000 SPG points would be worth around £15 of free hotel stays or (if converted in chunks of 20,000) 1,250 airline miles.  That is a good deal.

If your hotel is not participating, however, you’re stuffed!

That said, you might as well go ahead and register via this link just in case you do have a participating SPG stay in the next four months.

Registration closes on 30th November, and you don’t want to be caught out if you end up having a Starwood stay in December or early January.

I will look at the new Marriott promo tomorrow.

Good To Go Heathrow parking flash sale

Good To Go Parking is the ‘leisure’ marketing front for Official Heathrow Parking.  You can only book via Good To Go if you include a Saturday night, and you aren’t told until after you’ve booked that you are actually going to be in the officially airport-run car parks.

It is running a flash sale this week with parking from £3.95 per day with Drop & Ride and from £6.35 with Meet & Greet, based on a 15 day booking.

You need to book by 10th September for visits before 13th October.

You don’t need any discount codes – these prices will show automatically on their website here.

  • Trev says:

Will an SPG cash & points booking at a participating hotel count?

    • Pangolin says:

The bonuses described above will result for paid stays only, at a so-called ‘Eligible Rate’. In other words, ponying up cash to cover the booking in full and booking direct rather than through an OTA.

  • Pangolin says:

Interesting that the SPG promo runs to January 15 rather than mid-December. It’s unusual (but potentially beneficial) that it runs across the holiday period. Slightly disappointing is that quite a few SPG hotels in Europe are not participating.

What’s also interesting is that the Marriott Megabonus has just been announced and this runs to the exact same day (Jan 15). The signs of the impending program merger are starting to appear!

The Marriott offer – Stay twice get a free night – looks very tempting also. Hopefully there’ll be fewer property opt-outs than the SPG promo (that does seem to be more of an SPG thing).

  • Ant says:

OT: I have 1 night booked at a Radisson in oslo next week. Anyone knows of a cheap Park Inn around London/Essex area I can look at so I can stay before end of Sept and get a free Friday night? All the ones I looked at kept coming up at over a £100. Thanks

  • Chris says:

Does the rolling luggage deal have a minimum spend? If not, I could go in and by a luggage tag, and still claim the 1000 Avios?

  • Scallder says:

I also got an email from Starwood a few days back offering double stay and nights credit. As was unlikely to use it I signed up but didn’t pay huge attention to the dates – from memory it was from now until some time in November…

    • Drav says:

i got that too… useless for me as i have gold through amex platinum and have no desire to reach spg platinum

  • Optimus Prime says:

I have a refundable cash reservation booked on their website for a hote from their list but am afraid my rate is not eligible. It’s a 35% Hawaii discount rate. I guess they’ll honor it just for best flexible rates? Anyway I’ve registered just in case.

    • Alan says:

As long as it’s a rate that earns SPG points it’ll be OK. I can’t imagine a rate booked directly through their website would be ineligible (it’s more of an IHG thing to do that, with large discounts forfeiting points).

  • N says:

£8 luggage tag – anyone found anything cheaper?

  • Mikeact says:

Re Rolling Luggage. Well I’ve ordered something but where on earth do you insert your Avios number ?

    • the real harry1 says:

      indeed – luggage tag £8 = 1016 Avios (incl MR points) = 0.79p/ Avios

but you’d need to claim your points later as no Avios box, a couple of screenshots should be all you need to guarantee you get the points

    • Geoff says:

It should appear in the shipping method grey box, and you can select Avios, AER Club or BAEC.

    • Big D says:

Its on the “Shopping Cart” page at the bottom under shipping methods…
