News in brief:

Mr and Mrs Bear return

Heathrow Airport has released its 2017 Christmas video / advert and, whilst other websites seem to be able to fill full articles with this news, I simply don’t get it.

  1. Why is the video about a bear family when they all turn into humans in the end?
  2. Why is the song so sad?
  3. How do they get in the taxi when obviously someone else snatches it from them.

I do, however, appreciate that Mrs Bear kept her coat from last years ad and the suitcase also seems to be the same.

If you want to see the ad, the link is here.

You can also take a quiz on the site to check whether you were born in the wrong decade – which according to the test I was, as I am apparently a child of the ’70s ….

5,000 Miles & More miles with a Budget car rental

Lufthansa Miles & More miles are not so easy to earn if you live in the UK so this offer of 5,000 Miles & More miles for a 3+ day Budget car rental is worth a look.

You need to book by 30th November but the rental can be for any date before the end of June.  The promotion is only valid for rentals in Europe and you must book via the special link on the Miles & More website.

Last years was better. Always seems to come the week I’m picking my wife up from Heathrow after she’s been away for a while… so quite nice to share it with her via social media

  • WhiteManVan says:

When the flight attendant you slept with appears in the video o_o

  • William says:

OT. I see that Hotels.com do not allow the reward evenings to be taken at all of the hotels they sell rooms for. You can therefore be quite disadvantaged if you are looking for a room in a specific area and wish to “cash in” a free night. Perhaps its tucked away somewhere in the small print, but if the practice becomes more widespread the value of using Hotels.com will go down.

  • Chris C says:

After last year’s viral hit, they needed to tell the story of how they met! It’s Christmas, nothing wrong with a bit of warm, fuzzy advertising, there are much worse things out there on the internet!

  • Cate says:

Also 4x KrisFlyer Miles (=2000 points) when you rent with Hertz Worldwide for two or more days. Book by Nov 30 for rentals until Dec 31, 2017.

  • Optimus Prime says:

OT – APD raised for premium tickets from April 2018. Economy remains for both long-haul and short-haul.

    • the real harry1 says:

      not quite:

“From April 2019 I will also freeze short-haul Air Passenger Duty rates and long-haul economy Air Passenger Duty paid for by an increase on Premium class tickets and private jets.”

      • Optimus Prime says:

Blame The Guardian, they say just “From April …”

        • the real harry1 says:

sorry again, just noticed the 2019 – also from the Grauniad – it must be 2018 otherwise wouldn’t be in this budget

        • the real harry1 says:

the reason the Grauniad (& I) got it wrong is that HM Treasury tweeted ‘2019’ – it is of course from April next year

but APD only goes up for Premium long haul

  • the real harry1 says:

sorry, I meant that APD on Premium short haul is not changing – just long haul

    • Cate says:

That’s just from the UK though. Even more reason to look for long haul awards starting from Europe. I’d imagine BA’s 2-4-1 voucher when used for long haul flights would feel this.

    • TripRep says:

      Hmm, maybe I should I open a B&B nr Inverness next year…?

      • David says:

I’d go for another Holiday Inn Express franchise if I were you – the current one charges like the light brigade.
